Envoy interview
Hi there,
Is anyone going through Envoy interview? I have an interview scheduled with Envoy next April 27, I was wondering if they make you do a written test and which gauge is recommended for the preparation? I’m using Aviationinterviews.com. Also assuming I pass it, how long before they give you a class date? Thank you. |

I received a CJO without an interview due to having prior 121 time. I can give you an overview of the onboarding process but no specifics about the interview.
Envoy flies you to DFW and covers the hotel and flight. The hotel van takes you to headquarters extremely early. A group of about three company pilots give a slide show presentation about the company. They go over the paperwork in your application and make sure everything is signed in the right place and in the right order. Someone reviews your paperwork and your logbook. A notary came in for the national driver’s registry. They fed us early lunch. Someone pulled the two cadets who were interviewing into another room at this time. Everyone was fingerprinted and drug tested and sent back to the airport between 1 and 2, I think it would have been earlier if the person giving drug tests wasn’t an hour late. Your file is presented to the captains review board on a Thursday about 7-10 days later and you are then notified of their decision. Receiving a CJO does not necessarily mean receiving a class date. Envoy hosts an Orientation date for pilots about once a month, the next one is April 13th. Orientation is the day you start getting paid, are given study material and onboarding tasks, and are told what Indoc class dates to expect; classes are run every two weeks and my Orientation was broken into three classes. Class seniority is determined by first cadet date of hire, then quantity of prior part 121 time from highest to lowest, then everyone else is ranked from oldest to youngest. I think Envoy prioritizes adding prior Part 121 time pilots to their Orientation group first, then cadets, then everyone else as space allows. This is due to the captain shortage. Someone on another thread stated that he had no prior 121 time, was not a cadet, received a CJO in November or December, and was given an April 13th Orientation date recently. If Envoy is receiving fewer DEC candidates now, there should be more room opening up for other new hires and things should move more quickly, especially since Envoy does not appear to give anyone an Orientation date much more than a month out. I don’t think they plan very far ahead, or they don’t want to give out spots they might be able to give to a DEC instead. You are going to have to compete for a job and wait for a training date. I recommend applying to other airlines at the same time. If you are super lucky, you might get a start date 5-6 weeks after your interview, and if you aren’t, it could be months. Envoy is making business decisions that are best for it, and that isn’t first in first out. You don’t get a seniority number until Orientation. It would be helpful for other pilots who are interviewing if you shared what your total time and background is. Pilot hiring has been crazy lately and I don’t know what it takes to be competitive. |
How long did it take to receive an interview invite after you applied?

Thank you
I already received and accepted the CJO from Skywest, they told me I will have a class date sometime in August or September. Want to do the interview with Envoy anyway and have a second option.. I live in Chicago and Skywest could base me there right after training I head that QOL is better at SW and I don’t believe if direct flow, also I don’t have any prior 121 experience and I’m not sure if those bonuses that Envoy gives even apply to me. |

Not sure if I would be considered ex 121 with a short stay at a regional back in 2016 (ATP/CL-65 / 150 hours on type) - I left the 23 bucks an hour at the time back to my good paying engineer gig. |

While you wouldn’t qualify as even a “near” direct entry captain with 150 hours of 121 time, that time will still count towards an upgrade. You just need another 800 hours at Envoy. Another 600 hours will get you the captain pay. If you are interested, then by all means apply. The well of DECs has pretty much dried up, but there are still folks like yourself that have some time and see this as an opportunity to get back in. Pay has literally never been better.
