Junior FO Bases

Hello,

Which base can a junior FO expect out of training? How junior/senior is PHX for FOs?

I haven't found any tools to determine seniority by base. Currently living in PHX, have arrangements in place if commuting is necessary.

Thank you.

Isn't really easy to commute but worth it when you get to fly the big iron some day. Best of luck to you.

It’s the second most junior base behind DFW but the base is very small. More than half of the FOs here are on reserve. You won’t fly much. Slowly growing went from 12 lines in July to 27 in November with 20 planes coming to the company by the end of next year.

The bases they offer in Indoc varies depending on company need. There appears to be a big push for more pilots in Chicago right now, 3 months ago there was a push for DFW pilots. When I went through 6 months ago everyone was given Chicago.

Base bids are run about every 3 months. If you are in training after Indoc when one runs you will be allowed to put in a paper bid—which is really a form submitted on the computer that lets them process your request manually. If you have completed IOE, you submit base preferences and displacement preferences in the company’s SABRE run computer system. Chicago should be easy to get within 3 months if you don’t get it right away. Miami is the most senior base but a few FOs in training at the same time I was got Miami before finishing IOE.

Commuting for a month or two is character building! It will help you better appreciate what commuting pilots go through even if you are fortunate enough to escape commuting most of your career. Envoy offers 4 commuter hotels a month which helps.

Commuting for a year has been the norm in the past, at various airlines.

It is indeed real character building.

Just went through indoc last week. DFW, ORD, PHX all available and unlimited. MIA is senior and was not available for bidding

How long did it take from interview to orientation?

Would like to know this as well. Not going to mess with the interview if it takes months to get into a class

I got an interview date but a recruiter told me it could take 2-3 months for a class date. Hopefully someone that has gone through it recently can update us on the exact time.
