Zero impact on my decision, as long as it flies. Does beg the question though, would it put a centerline thrust restriction on my certificate like the pointy nose guys get coming from the military jets?

Still, I prefer it over the CRJ and E145.

Does that mean that even if a new hire selects the E175 they still get that extra $5K that previously only went to those willing to accept the older airframes? Or is that a typo/mis-print?

I would prefer DFW 175, but am debating whether the extra $5K would be worth taking the 145. I have heard negative things about the airframe. Wouldn't mind the CRJ, but it's only available in ORD, and I don't want to live in/commute to Chicago for a few years. I can deal with it for a few months if I could get the 145 and transfer back to DFW though.
I have flown all 3 here.

I will break it down for you.. If you have to delay class for the E175, it's probably not worth it. Not worth the seniority loss and downline effects of that over the rest of your career. Especially with lots of new hires coming in now every month, and we will be likely growing class sizes rapidly with the new pay now making it even worse to delay a class. If there is a displacement in the future. You DEFINITELY want to be more senior to hold what you want. The new people experiencing super seniority in the 175 right now, could be brought back to reality in a displacement. Seniority rules everything in the end.

If you have the choice without having to delay class to get it. E175 is the no brainer. It offers the best quality of life to a new hire, best relative seniority advancement, and shortest reserve of any of the fleets. Which translates into more money potential as a line holder totally negating the 5K difference in bonus over time. Fleet is growing and obviously the nicest and most comfortable aircraft we have.

If you want DFW but can't get the 175, then 145 is your only other option. It flies fine, it's safe, it's reliable. It's a simple aircraft and very forgiving to people with no jet time. Coming from a helo, you won't know any difference anyway. I went into it out of our old turboprops and thought it was great compared to that.

If you want ORD, the CRJ is nicer to fly than the 145, it's more comfortable, better performance, quieter. Typically it has slightly better schedules. reserve time is less than the 145. It is scheduled to go away to PSA sometime but keeps getting delayed and delayed and it seems more likely we might just keep it for many more years at this rate. So who knows (which could be good or bad depending on how you look at it). If it went away or shrunk you could potentially be displaced off it and go to the E175 if you wanted it at that time.

So If you want DFW: E175>E145
If you want ORD: CRJ>E145

That is what I would choose in that order.

History showed that the 145 fleet has been more stable among base displacements than the CRJ. How many times has the CRJ been moved around in the past? Just saying, the same can happen to the 175. One day they can be moved to another base and judging by past experience and observation, the 145 is a more guarantee you will be able to be based where you want, eventually.

If they displace again you just displace or proffer to displace to whatever other equipment you can hold anyway. What difference does it make? You can either hold it with your seniority or you can't. May as well fly the nicer fleet with better schedules (if you have a choice) while you can IMO.

So simple, right? Just telling all the new guys what can happen and the consequences. Some might not like doing longterm training. I don't.

No, not arguing, Whatever works. I just don't mind it I guess after 7 long terms here. I was just saying you "can" still stay in your base with a displacement if your seniority can hold it. It just requires training. I kinda like the break from the line boredom and I like learning new aircraft so my perspective may be different. I also thought the CRJ was much more fun to fly anyway. I went back to the 145 after a few years on the CRJ and it felt like going from a new sports car to a used civic. Initially I liked the 145... until I flew the CRJ. Now after flying the 175, I wouldn't want to go back to either of them. Lol

Why you people keep talking about displacements? Its not going to happen folks. That cost too much!! I would encourage new hires to get on the E175 if possible your quality of life will be better.

Too bad senior FO's are getting shafted, but this isn't 2010....
