Follow up to that, ORD reserve time?

ORD line and flight commute, or IAH reserve and drive able/short flight commute?

If you can hold IAH and drive it if needed, that is by far the smartest decision. Don’t commute to ORD just for a line. When winter storms hit you won’t get to work, or possibly get stuck and can’t get home. I used to be at Xjet, and the reserve is not near as bad as other regionals.

Morning everyone.

Could someone explain how reserve looks like at Expressjet?. I know IAH right now is between 8-12 months of reserve, and also that you get to fly 75-80h, or so I've been told.

Do you have any control over your schedule? how's quality of life overall while on reserve. (living in base).

Thx!

-11 days off on months with 30 days.
-12 days off on months with 31 days.
-You get released by 5pm on your last day if you go unused.
-You bid for days on/off and reserve call out periods.
-You can build relief lines with left over scraps, if you want and if you’re not at the very bottom of the reserve list.

If you’re living in base it won’t be bad, but again, 12 days off is about what you can expect.

Awesome thanks for the info. Is it true that I will fly my ass off during reserve?. I heard people at PSA were flying 20-30h on reserve for example.

Yes you will. Reserve CA here averaging 110 credit and 85 block hours a month

Lucky me my career is my life right now, no other obligations, so the more the better.

Good work rules and plenty of flying is a winning combination.

Like being on the road seven days straight?

Are you an Expressjet pilot and have you been on the road for 7 days straight?

I am and yes I have but, I chose to accept the rolled day off. You can always refuse a rolled day. In my 12 years it’s only happened ONCE that I was on for 7 days.

Erj135dude 04-21-2019 05:09 PM

As long as it's optional... Plus I understand that means some kind of extra pay?

PhantomHawk 04-21-2019 07:30 PM

Beware the transition. If you bid poorly at the end of one month and the beginning of another.....you may find yourself working a lot of days straight.

How long to get Knoxville reserve? How long for a line? I can’t find it in the thread recently. Thanks!

ChilledPilot 05-03-2019 05:24 PM

Few days ago all New hires for April 50-60ppl got assigned requested bases :)
I am not sure what is going to happen with upcoming batches, as they are hiring full steam ahead. At the moment EWR is still junior base.

When are you looking to start?

Right now, it’s not clear but probably not over 12 months, quite possibly less than 6 months. But with hiring full steam ahead TYS will quickly become more and more senior.

Is anyone else on here in the 5/6 class? If so where is everyone staying? I'm in the La Quinta.

Which La Quinta? South or East. How does the hotel look like in person? Tryp advisor pics are not promising haha

As a consolation, La Quinta has a free breakfast every morning. Which might not sound that great, but, I had the Hyatt for training. No free breakfast. Another meal we had to plan and purchase. So, it’s not all bad.

Erj135dude 05-05-2019 09:19 AM

For a few nights here and there who cares, but for 9 weeks of training it'd be nice to stay on a nice hotel. But hey it is what is

flyoutaz 05-05-2019 09:35 AM

Clean and free breakfast, especially before per diem kicks in is good. Lot better than dual occupancy or crappy apartments. Some la quintas have been revamped. Sheraton was nice though! Eh, can handle that for 3 months.

For when training finishes half way through a month, will the rest be reserve and get to bid for the next month?

DownInPetaluma 05-05-2019 11:21 AM

La Queeta. Lol.

Better than the non-hotel I and my compatriots got a zillion years ago.

Slippuller49 05-05-2019 01:16 PM

I’m at the La Quinta too for 5/6.. So far it’s clean I have no worries about leaving my tooth brush on the counter.

Erj135dude 05-06-2019 12:05 AM

How long will you guys stay there? The entire length of the training?

I was asking this last night at the front desk. No matter what even if there are days off, time to go home, anything. We have the same hotel room blocked out for 92 days. They have a shuttle run to WallyWorld on Friday and Saturday but you need to get on the list to go.

There are a few options around o eat, but not a whole ton. The rooms have refrigerators and microwaves. All in all I've stayed in worse.

PeakEGT 05-06-2019 03:41 AM

Correct, you’re blocked out there for your entire length of training. As breaks near you’ll get directions from travel telling you check out if you go home for more than a week. You’ll then have to put in a request when your date to come back nears. Also, if your sims get moved to St Louis.

fly4jx 05-06-2019 12:11 PM

Do you get per diem during training? I know Envoy gives per diem during training. Would suck to be stuck at a place that doesnt give you breakfast with no per diem...

yes, you get per diem

cue "used to be that's all you got!" posts followed by "you got paid for training? I had to pay THEM for training!" posts....

this is incorrect.

All trainees are domiciled in Houston, and do not rate, and are not paid per diem.

That makes more sense. Web says 3 months at $2,600/mo, period.

Things must have changed, because when I went through training we got paid per diem. Trainees are based nowhere to begin with. You bid during training.

But they get guarantee. All we got was that per diem check for all of training....

Oh even better. The mold infested Holiday Inn on JFK Blvd. It reminded me of living in the dorms or frat house in college.

One floor was pilots, next was FA’s another was Halliburton folks. The stories are unbelievable
