We’ve heard (and I’ve read here in the past) that on the 145 it’s likely to get the base you want by the time you’re out of training. For example, I see 4 people from the 8/19 class who were initially awarded EWR but have traded to IAH. And those trades were approved via leaving 4 vacancies in EWR. I guess that means 4 more EWR slots for the next class.

One class is not a trend, but the 9/9 class was the latest to get base assignments, which just came out in the past few days. Aircraft were already assigned in their 1st or 2nd week, but they just got bases. This class had 24 people, but I think a few of there were new hire instructors, so I don’t know how that affects the base assignments. Seniority within a class date is based on age, so the instructors are not necessarily the senior people in the class.

ERJ (145)
IAH – 4 (the 3 most sr folks in the class, plus #15 – think he is an IP)
ORD – 3
EWR – 6
CLE – 6
I think the #4 IAH guy was an IP. The reason I think that is that I know a guy who wanted IAH but got CLE and is higher seniority than him. The only reason #15 would have gotten IAH over #6 is that he’s an IP and will therefore be in IAH.

ER7 (175)
IAH – 1 (might be an instructor)
ORD - 4

If you get the E175 you will likely get ORD as United wants to really beef up and expand Chicago for ExpressJet and the 175. It seems like 145 guys are getting whatever they want within a short amount of time. United says E145 will be a big Houston and Newark operation with Chicago being predominantly 175 operation.

Will they still be hiring into the 175 in a few months or do they plan to be fully staffed by then?

I’m sure they will but don’t expect to get it, 145 seems to be the priority at the moment. Day 1 of class make sure you bid what you want and you just MIGHT get it.

Just a generalization.
If you’re just starting out you should probably hope for the -145. Aside from you no one cares what type of turbofan you fly. They care about the number of turbofan hours you have and if you made it through training without a hitch.
Get into a simple airplane. Learn how to fly. Get some hours and flying in/out of EWR and ORD in the winter under your belt. Then, if you get to where you can hold a good schedule in the -175 bid that to get another type rating. Upgrade into what you can hold first.
Again, just a generalization. Results may vary.

Wish I could like this 1000 times.

But my friends say the 175 looks cooler than the 145, and I want to look cool.
