This has to be the biggest insult in aviation history, not only losing the brand new 175's but the flying getting acquired by ExpressJet's biggest nemesis - SkyWest a non-union carrier. This is goin to be the nail in the coffin for certainty.
In the end there will be only be five regionals left as predicted (Wholly Owned, Republic and SkyWest).
If I were an ExpressJet pilot I would bail out now and leave for a non United regional and send them a big message that enough is enough.

The problem is that Aviate is the fastest way to United. So, people looking to get to United faster than OTS will roll the bones on XJT and that 20 yr. old jet.

It is? How many Aviate pilots have entered UA classes this year? It must be higher than OTS if it is the fastest way, right?

Not sure but all my UA friends keep saying for me to go Aviate vs OTS. Even when arguing that OTS seemed to have far better odds than Aviate.

It's amazing how the guys in ATL try to spin this as some sort of positive news. Here's a crapmeat sandwich, it's fantastic! The 175's were the only thing attracting new hires here. We're going to see our hiring numbers drop to pre-175 numbers if they don't get serious about contract gains. ENDEAVOR + 1 or NO DEAL

I hope (that's a great strategy, right?) they are smart enough to see that without serious contract improvements, XJT will be in the same boat next year that TSA is in right now.

I’m pretty sure they know exactly what they’re doing.....it’s just not what you want, so they must be clueless, right? I agree that it’s a garbage situation for XJT and especially TSA......but feed will continue, and that’s clearly all that mainline cares about. Saying they are clueless just because their decisions are painful to you, actually makes you appear to be the clueless one.

I’m not sure if United is clueless but they are behind on hiring and a flow would help secure their pipeline. Pilots are needed worldwide. Mandatory retirements are here. Expect higher pay rates to keep us around. We lose the jet but will win in the end.. hopefully

I wouldn’t say they are clueless, but they are severely underestimating the current supply and the churn this network shift will create. It is going to be a very rough summer for the UAX operation.

UAL is behind on hiring? I think you are mistaken. Classes have been full, and often. Things will slow down because of the MAX and Coronavirus cancellations......but it’s not for lack of applicants. I’d LOVE to see more XJT people get hired, but a flow would be bad. There are way too many bad apples in that cart.....and you know it. Not to mention the fact that a flow will delay your path to UAL by YEARS.
