FX Dues
Looks like we need a new ALPA accountant. Geniuses.

Only the best programmers in the industry.
I hear it's a Phase VII implementation, target is JUN bid month, 2020, deadline is DEC 2023, which will most likely be pushed back to MAY 2024 due to peak season freeze. . |
How did the sec tres not know that X amount of dues were not accounted for , for 6 months?
|
What percentage do we pay on our income? Is it still 2% or did they raise it (of course it will never be lowered). I have completely forgotten.
I'm wondering if you look at your year end 2016 statement, if you multiply your gross by whatever the percentage is, if that should be your dues deduction, or if there's something else that will amaze and confuse us. |
I also wonder how they are planning on getting back the dues from the hundreds of people who retired at the end of the year.

I vote that they wait and take any under payments out of the 5% bonus payment they still owe us. We are fast approaching 2 years since the signing date, and we still are not whole on our bonus "retro" payment.
|
I think that is a brilliant idea. We should all just tell our block reps that they can have our dues when we get our 5%!!!
I was told we "might" see the 5% late summer. What? Why so long, ALPA MEC? Get it done!!! Next time "my negotiating committee speaks for me", they need to get INTEREST on our "signing bonus" for any length of time after the signing date. Why should it be split into two parts anyway? Why should we have to wait so long, when it was supposed to be instead of retro pay? |
Guess I am going to go in bad standing.

Why so long on the 5%?
Asked, and answered multiple times via Union Comm There are outstanding grievances that will impact the funds available, which is the rationale behind retaining the 5% in the first place. Why do grievances take so long? Thank Congress, RLA is stacked against labor...gotta keep the freight moving. |
All you have to do is log onto ALPA national and check your account status. It will tell you whether you owe or not. I never got a "separate check" and owe nothing.

No, this is not correct. ALPA account status is not up to date yet. If you owe something you will get a bill via mail or email.

Gee, it would have been nice to figure this out before income taxes were due.
I wonder how many guys will have to file an amended return? |
Not a problem, if you pay the dues in 2017, you claim the deduction in2017.
|
My balance says over $500, however, if I total my gross pay by 1.9%, it actually looks like I overpaid by over $400. Someone else I talked to said that their balance shows 0, but that their gross pay times 1.9% shows they overpaid by $700 last year.
So....what am I missing here? If the 1.9% amount is accurate, did we have an additional assessment that I forgot about? I recall other years where they told me that I owed money and sent me a bill, but never had a year that I got a refund. I must be screwing this up somehow. |
I understand now. Apparently the dues they deducted in 2016 includes everything they deducted in Dec 2015. Confusing, changing from one accounting system to another. I have a feeling some people are going to get hit bigtime by this.
|
I got the email from ALPA saying how much I owe. But the earned income they report for the last year is rediculously high. I realize it's based on 13 months but it's off by about $60,000. Anyone have any insight on what they are using to calculate your earned income?

Shouldn't those payments be reflected in our W-2s? They were taxed.
|
After a long hold on the ALPA *** hotline (lots of people with the same question) Fdxlag, you are correct. December 2015 was the first bonus payment. It was reflected on my 2015 W2. Also, I got an end of the year vacation buyback that shows up in December. So combined with box 5 of the 2016 W2, it adds up.

Same here. After a long hold, they explained that I needed to add the bonus check from Dec. 2015 and a few hours of unused vacation. It added up to the correct amount.
