Scenario #1 -

Interviewer: So you're at United now. Why do you want to leave?

Mover: FedEx has been my #1 choice for a long time. United is just a place holder until I can come to work here.

Scenario #2 -

Interviewer: I see you used to work at United and now you're in real estate. Why did you quit?

Mover: Pax flying isn't for me. I want to work here.

Interviewer: (any number of followup questions here to include possible trouble in training, commuting issues, lifestyle problems, etc)

Mover: (spins an answer)

Interview - If you have something else ready to go, why should we not think you will quit again and have wasted our time? Why should we take that chance when there is a line of applicants champing at the bit while they make ends meet gaining valuable experience at their second tier flying job?

Mover: (Dons tap shoes) Well,........

Interviewer: (hears nothing but this as Mover answers https://youtu.be/MK6TXMsvgQg)

FYI...scenario #2's chances of getting a call are much lower than scenario #1.

It didn't touch a nerve, I was just shocked that someone would say that. It isn't that we aren't getting paid during the layover or that it extends our time from home.

I too wouldn't solely base a job on it but it would definitely be on the radar. Here are a few things done on company time this last year.

Deep sea fishing

Dune buggy riding in the UAE

Normandy

Taj Mahal

Mariners game

lakers game

Multiple college games

Ducksford air show

Paris air show.

International boat show in Dusseldorf.

If Im not gone any more than someone else, why wouldn't I want to do the stuff above instead of blocking time. As far as getting stuck sitting in Little Rock or Fresno, with 60 off, Fresno, I'd be hiking El Capitan, and Little Rock, I be on a houseboat with a few friends in Hot springs.

Your time is what you make of it. If I gotta be gone from the family, I better make the best of it, to include making sure I keep in touch with old squadron mates, college friends and relatives.

Maybe it's just me but I would rather be doing this than 4-5 legs a day with 12 hr layovers and groundhog day 3-6 days in a row.

Sounds pretty nice. I need to get out more lol.

Boohoo

I actually can give a definitive answer regarding Mover's question. However due to the fact that "Fred" sounds like a petulant child who didn't get his way in life, there is no way in hell I will share it because I don't want to get stuck working with "Fred." And that's what whining on a web board will get you...

I have flown for Fedex for 35 years seen all the good and bad in companies and the airline business overall. That being said I can't believe anyone would choose their employer by who has the best commuter lines. Commuting is nothing but practice bleeding, not to mention probably the most overrated concern out there.
You are picking your career and your life's important items will change by multiples of times as you age.
There are way more important reasons to choose a carrier than commuter problems. Think carefully.

Travel benefits

Do you have a wife and kids? Pass benefits can be a real plus, retired now but while working my wife and kids saw much of the World joining me on trips I was flying or on vacations. Even now in 3 1/2 years into retirement my wife and I have travelled to China 3 times and Europe 5 times plus many domestic flights, all the International pass flying has been business or first class, makes retirement much more enjoyable, and the passes were no charge except for international departure tax.

At FedEx you can offload freight at will. No kicking, no flailing, no screaming, no lawsuits.

I have seen a couple of ramp agents screaming and flailing when you kickoff a can.

I'll agree to disagree on this one. Non-rev'ing is hard and is only getting harder with airlines getting better at filling airplanes, especially around holidays and summer. Fdx employees can also ZED, which is pretty much same thing. To weigh ones decision on a "benefit" (I think it's arguable it's still a benefit) isn't wise.
