It was most definitely on purpose! If at least one persons caught it, my work is complete.

I mentioned this earlier in this thread...

With the 767 category growing, I see new hires going into the 767 category...unless there is a giant excess off the -11/10.

Next years 76 “growth” will be just enough to stock the Indy base with LDS and the Mem 76 FO seat seems to be one of the heavier manned if you look at the Nov vacation buyback offer.

That's your issue, the use of the term "Secondary Vavancy"? I could describe the entire process without using that offensive term if I were sitting in front of a real keyboard with the desire to do so and the time to kill, but I'm typing on my phone, I have no such desire to dignify the semantic battle, and it's game day in Knoxville, so I have more important things to do, starting with the hotel's free breakfast buffet.

Of course we know The Company never has to fill Secondary Vacancies, and they chose not to fill Secondary Vacancies in 17-01. We also know The Company needs to post vacancies in more seats than just the Hong Kong left seat, and they announced their intention (in 17-01) to post those vacancies in the Fall of 2017. (Check your calendar.) The deal is they don't consider those vacancies "urgent" -- yet.

And the point you're choosing to miss is The Company should fill secondary vacancies because they need to fill secondary vacancies but they cannot fill secondary vacancies because they have not developed the automation to comply with the CBA they signed TWO YEARS AGO.

Their "urgent need" for captains in Hong Kong can be met with contractual provisions. There is no requirement that the CBA be violated.

GO VOLS!

“I think the whole neighborhood knows you had an awesome time last night Frank.”

I know you know the contract, I also know a whole lot of people do not. Many of them get their info from here, jetflyers, crew bus, cockpit rumors or some concoction of them all. So while I know what you mean, there are plenty who don’t and who will run around with the wrong impression of what is and isn’t happening with respect to the new process.

I’m not missing your point, however your point is an opinion not a fact with respect to staffing. Neither of us have any concrete knowledge on what they ‘need’ to do staffing wise outside of the 10 slots they’ve admitted are urgent. We have no minimum staffing numbers in our contract. The company doesn’t share specific manninf data with us. While they stated it was possible a bid would be this fall, they’ve also stated that they may hold off till Spirng 18 and that the big bid in 16 had built in overages and could last two years. Seems that will be the case, but that still doesn’t mean any of us know the staffing numbers.

Iow, we’re talking a lot about vacancies but there’s nothing grievance worthy there. Now there are other portions of this section that would have qualified for a grievance absent this agreement. You and others have been debating that which is more than fair, I’m staying out of that. I just feel that mixing it all together can come off confusing for some. As for not giving a rip about what others do, I’m not sure there could be a more FedEx comment than that. This system isn’t new, it’s just new to us. A lot can be gleaned from how it’s worked elsewhere and why. A lot more than us sitting around in our bubble and working up our own doomsday theories.

Like Nightflyer’s FO concerned about a bump and flush on the next bid. It’s not a free for all system where we get to fully excercise our seniority on every bid regardless of vacancies. If we excess it will be for the same reasons as previous excesses-because they’re shrinking a category. It just won’t take two bids with the vacancy, then -1 dance anymore. Now my personal opinion is that there is little chance of Nightflyer’s FO getting excessed. I could detail why I think that, but it would only bring me way back to my original point about the Company controlling vacancies and us really only speculating them. On to the football then.

Caution, thread drift...

I was talking to a new hire.

He is in a wide body seat.

He was wondering if during the big spring bid, under the new contract rules, would it be possible for him to be "excessed" down to the 757 FO seat.

I said I didn't know.

Any ideas?

There are an awful lot of folks who are in seats higher than their seniority could normally hold. Will the next bid be a "bump and flush"?

Several new hires on the 777 have told me that management has been telling them during indoc that they can't be bumped off the 777 because of the new Section 24. I had an FO argue this point with me for an hour. I pulled out my iPad and brought up the contract and showed him 24.C.2.c.

I told him "you're crazy if you think you're going to keep your 777 seat if a bunch of senior MD pilots are displaced off the MD. Where do you think they're going to go, to the 757?"

Assuming with what they post on the next big bid, there could be a lot of disillusioned purple nuggets.

Doesn't look like they will displace MD people anytime soon. Heard most new hires will goto 75 in the near future

Yes - it’s happening ;)

...then once the 767 gives the 757 lines back, the 777 guys can steal them

They need to “hook” all the short 757 trips (i.e. BHM, BNA, CHA) with the long 777 trips :D
