Entering "Control" Headquarters (CDG Ops)
#2
I was there on day 1 and the "new" security screening was a CF. CDG ops security put a magnetron and a bag scanner in a stand-alone trailer out by parking spot I54 that was maybe 12'x24'. The bag scanner took up most of the small trailer, so much so that only one crew member at a time could walk into the trailer, degauss all metal items, place your crap in a bin, scan it through, re-dress, grab your luggage and step out of the trailer back into the van you just got out of. The enter/exit doors of the trailer are no more than 8' apart and if you wanted, you could reach back into the trash can on your way back to the same van you just got out of and retrieve any water, un-opened bottle of vino, etc... right out of the bin you just discarded it in. The van never moved -- it couldn't. Rinse, repeat, etc. for the rest of your crew.... I told Laurance at the front desk that this was untenable and she said they have told CDG security for over a year that this would not work but... there you have it!
It's pretty typical here at Purple: no one asks a single user if this makes sense and the management types never ops checks ANY procedure they put into place.

Or the courtesy call I once made to the AFNORTH Commander's office in Oslo only to find that his Norwegian conscript guard was sitting across the room from the entrance at a desk by the door to the General's office but that the 'guard' had hung up his jacket, his service rifle, and his service pistol on the coat rack at the entrance. He was not only weapon less but he'd provided the casual visitor with two of them.
Sort of pro for a protection that didn't really accomplish much.
