Not to get too much off topic, but whyyyyy for the love of God are pilots still accepting jobs from shady 135 operators that misinterpret 135.267 to mean that rest can be a "look back" period?

At my 135, it was made VERY clear in training that rest MUST be known in advance. Not to mention we have 13 hard days off per month, not per quarter.

It boggles my mind that in the best hiring environment in decades that pilots would take jobs at 135s who are willfully violating 135.267.

Brutal..... Are the rumors true floating around the training center that the guy who is or was the VP of ops is getting a line number?

If you are talking about the former SouthWest guy, then yes, it's true.:(

This is not uncommon, the company has done this for years.

Over the years they have hired into various management, training, and safety positions and then these guys slide into a seniority holding position. I think they only restriction is that the company has to be hiring at the time. Like pros, their line seniority is based on the 'to the line' date, not the original hire date.

The big question is when we furlough, what happens to them. I am assuming nothing if they are still in supervisory or management roles.

What management person was later given a line number in the past? Can you give an example, or is this just something you think happened?

I called the union about this and they said it was a first, but there was nothing they could do about it. They also said in the past they would hire from the line into those management positions.

Sounds like its starting to look like UPS with the cool management pilots starting to fly the line with traditional line guys. Go purple! Don't worry the next ones to join you in the cockpit will be the lawyers. They need a pay raise and need to keep a close eye on the pilots.

Looks like he is going 57F MEM. I, for one, welcome him to flight status. I hope he will go fly a few weeks of AM hub turns in a row. When leadership really understands what it is we do, I see that as positive.

I'm interested to learn the details of his probation.

[EDIT TO ADD:]

I just took a peek at the current Master Seniority List. Did he change his name to Robert?

You may recall Jim Bowman introduced him to the crew force in November, 2015, as "Captain T_____." Maybe this will mean a pay bump for a whole lot of FOs senior to him.

Yeah, and I'm hoping a Leprechaun riding a unicorn will trot up to my house and drop a pot of gold in my front porch.

Remember the System Chief Pilot who would deadhead to the middle of a disputed pairing, fly the offensive leg, deadhead home, and proclaim it wasn't all that bad? If they really wanted to know what our job is like, they wouldn't have office jobs with secretaries.

This isn't about being one of us, it's about taking advantage of us. There are a few perks to having a seniority number, and they shouldn't be frittered away on a senior manager hired from the outside.
