Per the ALPA Fastread, FedEx has come to ALPA asking for relief to use company jumpseats. If we agree to this, it will affect just about every commuter, and the language would have to be iron clad with an end date, or we'll never get back what we have now. Contact your Block Reps for details and to voice your thoughts. My opinion, we'd have to get something back in exchange. Usually, these things don't work out in our favor, so i'm not thinking it's a good idea.

They want to put us on company jumpseats at the start and end of deadhead pairings. So instead of something like MEM-CLT-JFK on American with a bank of $400, it would be FDX1234 J/S. This would currently violate section 8 of the contract, so FedEx is asking for relief from ALPA. That's my understanding at least.

I don’t have a problem using company jumpseats when no other method of getting there is possible, such as Dubai or locations in India. I’d like to see that pilots receive bank credit though. But I’ve seen them use company jumpseats from Paris, Cologne, Kix, etc., when commercial flights are available. This is in violation of our CBA.

Absolutely! If a commercial DH is available, I’d call scheduling and have them rebuild your pairing. Extending the footprint can add significant time (pay) to your trip. If you choose to take a company jumpseat, it’s your choice. Hopefully, there will be one available...

Flexibility can go both ways. Let’s say I have a front end deadhead to Paris. Safe thing is to jumpseat from home city (LAX) to Memphis and take scheduled DH. Kind of a pain in the ass, but safe. There’s also a direct flight to Paris from LAX on AA/DAL/UAL for example. The company can show some flexibility and “protect” me by approving the deviation, no harm no foul....
