The Rules

Guys are still leaving the hotels in Japan. Is it that hard to follow the last Japan FCIF? The Takashimaya store is not in the hotel.

How does bringing this up on APC going to solve anything? The form says not to leave the holel. What is a holel?

If it bothered you so much, why didn’t you confront them? Seriously??

If Coumo can leave his house...

Huck 05-12-2020 06:11 PM

Well, enjoy the terminal hotel, then.....

Agree. I've seen a lot of guys leave the hotel complex completely and go downtown.

You are given three pieces of paperwork to sign that state not to leave the hotel.

We are our worst enemy. There's so many here with the "me" attitude.

Not just Purple, so true. We are definitely are our own ambASSadors at times.

4 months for 3 hours, yeah that seems about right. Guess you're not in Kansas anymore. With apologies to the people of Kansas....

The article in the link said 4 weeks, not months, but it still sucks for him.

So, perhaps everyone will be more careful about following the rules now?

It could have been worse, they could have caned him.

Singapore doesn’t screw around. Remember the federal case In the 90s about the American kid who was busted spray painting a car or something. He was sentenced to be caned.

He was not only sentenced, he was actually caned, and he was the son of the "company" station manager.

I was told he was on the next plane out, with his family, after the caning.

magic rat 05-13-2020 10:38 AM

Start caning us, I can GA-RUN-TEE that'll fix the non-compliant who can't seem to follow simple instructions.

No they don’t, any foreign country for that matter. Just surprised by the number of Fcif’s we get about folks blowing off the rules.

I did see the union email about 4 weeks vice 4 months. My bad!

BLOB 05-13-2020 02:57 PM

If you are in a foreign country you are subject to their laws. It doesn’t matter that you think it’s not fair that you can’t leave your room. They don’t care what you think. Hopefully we can be smart enough to realize that by violating a sovereign country’s laws you jeopardize our company’s ability to do business there and can and will cost the company millions of lost revenue which can translate into lost jobs for all of us. If that’s not enough incentive, spending months or years in a foreign jail as your cellmate’s “special” friend should be enough of a disincentive to not screw up. Times suck. Corona virus is overblown. That doesn’t mean you won’t end up in a foreign jail sucking your thumb as your cell mate...use your worst imagination. Unless you are into that sort of thing.

Oh... and you’ll get to pay a big fine too and probably lose your job by costing the company millions. So that AVA trip you’re on when you leave the hotel where you were told you can’t leave....that money is spent on lawyers and a fine. No boat for you. Just a sore...

If you wanna play chicken with the law, and break corona restrictions, do it in Texas. Some lawmaker will go to bat for you and have you cut their hair as well. Foreign country where you don’t have constitutional rights...well that ain’t so smart amigo.

magic rat 05-13-2020 03:16 PM

Great shot of him walking out with his uniform pants on, obviously didn’t bring his courtroom suit with him. If I was him I’d had walked out both middle fingers in the air, no mask, Gene Simmons tongue.....I mean, how bad can a caning be?

Way to go representing our company. Thanks.

How's the China detainee doing?

Stan446 05-13-2020 04:52 PM

And if you think there are no consequences, the Singapore pilot who left the hotel is now spending 4 weeks in a Singapore prison.

USMCFDX 05-13-2020 04:54 PM

Joey, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?

Typical attitude. We've signed documents explicitly stating we won't leave the hotel in Japan. The company just posted a FCIF addressing this. But I think the pic you posted needs to be turned at you. Enjoy the new hotel lock downs because people like you feel they can live above the law. Now, 99%will suffer for the actions of a few. I didn't realize that following company policy wasn't required anymore. Try explaining all the security camera pics of you in the hallway, you downtown, you leaving the hotel.

This exemption eliminates the requirement for crewmembers to be quarantined for 14 days in Japan. In the current environment having the ability to self-isolate in the hotel and not in your room is a benefit. We have been receiving reports that crewmembers are leaving the hotel for a myriad of reasons.

Contrary to what the hotel staff says, this is not allowed, you must self-isolate in the hotel. The hotel staff may not understand that crewmembers staying at the hotel are under the crewmember exemption. The COVID-19 Entry document provides the information that delineates the procedures for Japan. If you have any questions please contact your Fleet Manager or submit an Insite report to the COVID-19 Task Force.

I’m going to have to guess that for some reason I’m not seeing some of the replies being posted on this thread. Or maybe hotel incarceration is really starting to take a mental toll.

Nope, Just guys posting that the hotel rules as posted by the company and the host nation, don't apply to them.

Moral of the story then; foreign countries still suck. Got it. And I thought New York was bad.

Huck 05-14-2020 05:11 AM

Singapore's response to the pandemic was swift, measured and effective. Our response resembles a bunch of apes flinging poo at each other. Yeah they're the sucky ones....

Singapore has a higher case rate per million than the US does. Take New York City out of the picture and it isn’t even close. And with the notable exception of Germany, the US has significantly lower case and death rates than most other western countries. So if our response resembles a bunch of apes flinging poo at each other, I wonder how you’d describe most of the countries in the EU? Funny thing about Germany...when I go there, I can leave my hotel, buy a beer and dinner and enjoy the outside air. When I’m in Singapore, I am locked into my airport hotel room and have a guard outside my door. I guess that kind of lifestyle suits you. Personally, I prefer my freedom. As my state opens up, its case count is actually dropping. In fact, with roughly the same population as Singapore, my state is averaging about half of Singapore’s daily new cases, and we aren’t arresting people for leaving their hotel rooms. Again, to each his own.

He makes a great point - why can’t a land mass approximately 1,367,185% larger than the island nation of Singapore handle this the same way? Or, for that matter, have the same reliable high speed Internet?

And not to mention the Bill of Rights. I enjoy having a limited government. (although every day seems like a fight to protect our RIGHTS under them)

Huck 05-14-2020 07:34 AM

You guys are something else.

USA Death Rate per million: 258
Singapore death rate per million: 4

Numbers don't lie. https://www.worldometers.info/corona...=homeAdvegas1?

Our case rate per million is similar to theirs. Probably because they test more.

CardboardCutout 05-14-2020 07:42 AM

Did someone up there just suggest that the Bill of Rights applies in Singapore?

I think some of you Constitutional Scholars slept through Civics class.

How about the personal responsibility to follow some simple rules and not possibly infecting others (although every day seems like all you hear are my rights my rights my rights...)

If only the US was a tiny little island nation with one major international airport as an access port. Although Taiwan’s .3 deaths per million rate makes Singapore look terrible. And I was just in Australia and they have the same death rate as Singapore but I was allowed to leave my hotel room there without getting arrested. And on Friday they are opening up restaurants for inside dining. Again, that whole island thing seems to be really helpful. Singapore won’t be loosening up anytime soon because despite being a tiny island nation like Taiwan, things actually got worse there over the last few weeks. So they are doubling down on restrictions while a good part of the rest of the world opens up.
Don’t get me wrong. I love Singapore. And I’m a rule follower. But I don’t expect to see anything more than a view of a closed airport for anytime in the near future on my layovers there.

Huck 05-14-2020 08:16 AM

Oh I think the hotel quarantines will be part of this job for years.

Got to wonder if it will speed up retirements at all. This is certainly not fun anymore......
