junior positions. If our reserve rules were a little better I think seniority would even itself out some in the bottom 15% of the CA seats.

Exactly. Everyone’s situation is different. My QoL will be better as a bottom feeder NB Capt than a 70% triple FO. I know people think I’m full of it but that’s not my problem.

Same boat. If I was a commuter on the 777 I’d def stay put and not upgrade. Especially if I had a mil/guard gig. But I don’t. And I live in Mem. The schedules of the bottom 10% 75 CA’s ain’t that bad and the extra pay is worth flying a few days a month sitting RA.

Question from a brown guy.. At ups many base their upgrade decision on the what-if scenarios, such as losing your medical. Here we’ll get 60% of CA or FO guarantee until age 65 (tax free). There are some additional supplemental insurance plans anyone can sign up for.. Additionally, our pension plan is tied to you being a captain or an fo.

So even though some senior FOs might make the same or even more money than junior captains, many will take the upgrade just in case they have a medical issue down the road.
Is that something y’all ever consider or is your loss of license insurance the same whether in the left or the right seat?
Thanks.

We get 60% of actual earnings for 2 years, then 50% to age 65. It’s all taxable since company pays 100% of premiums. Our pension is not seat based, it is also total actual earnings based.

Highest 5 years average, max $260k, 2%? MAX pension $5,200 x 25 years = $130k

Then you add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined, careful not to overmix.

Yes, just didn’t want to get into the weeds, just pointing out that seat doesn’t matter with our pension like it does theirs.

In Whalesurfer’s original question, “Additionally, our pension is tied to you being a Captain or an FO.”

I think most people are smart enough to figure that one out 😉
