UAL TA 2.0 Passses 82%-18%
Today, our pilot group voted by 82% to ratify the UPA23 Tentative Agreement; 97.37% of eligible pilots participated. The Agreement becomes effective today and over 200 improvements, including pay rate increases, are immediate. Refer to LOA 23-01 for an implementation schedule of all changes. Over its four-year duration, this contract will provide compensation, quality of work-life, benefits, and job protections that are collectively at the very top of the industry.
The 97.37% participation rate is remarkably high and a tribute to our unity. You have repeatedly stepped up with grit and determination. The journey that brought us to this day was long, difficult, and not without turmoil and upheaval. However, the journey also reinvigorated our union, reminding us of what we can accomplish through involvement and resolve. I am so very proud of the unity demonstrated this year as we restarted and intensified our efforts to attain the collective bargaining agreement we deserve. I’d like to personally thank the MEC, my fellow officers and Executive Administrator, the Communications Committee and Fact Team, the SPSC, the Negotiating Committee and their supporting committees, and ALPA staff for their tireless efforts and dedication.
There are many improvements to work rules and other provisions that will be phased in over the coming months. To ensure these changes take effect as stipulated in LOA 23-01, subject matter experts will work with the MEC officers, committees, and Company counterparts to monitor and enforce implementation.
Along with implementation, contract education and enforcement will be a top priority. You will continue to receive educational communications designed to enhance your understanding of the UPA. We all share the duty to remain vigilant and insist that management honor the commitments made during this round of negotiations.
Membership ratification brings with it vigorous debate and differences of opinion. This process, in my opinion, is healthy and necessary. Now that the membership ratification process is complete, I ask you to remain engaged with your union and take an active part in protecting and enhancing our profession. Today, please take time to enjoy the success our solidarity and hard work turned into reality.
With All Respect,
