Age 67 is back ...

Here we go again. "Let Experienced Pilots Fly Act"

H.R. 5523 (Rep. Troy Nehls, R-TX): Introduced September 19, 2025

And now S. 4452 (Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC): Introduced April 30, 2026;

MaxRange 05-05-2026 06:00 PM

Here come the New Balance wear-ers screaming that they're healthy and should be able to exercise their first class privileges!
Yet they can't seem to figure out how to run crewnav or turn their ipad brightness down at 4am.

But you get to fly two more years too! What’s the problem?! /s

I just love hearing this for age 65, when I was stuck in the right seat making peanuts at my regional.

total untrue statements.

Thrust Hold 05-05-2026 09:29 PM

Hey, I guess they're right. Senior citizens, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel can still serve a purpose.

proceeds to hit the altitude intervene button 10 times while not in VNAV. “why won’t this dang thing start down?!?”. Um, gramps- you’re in FLCH.

BlueAvi8tor 05-06-2026 04:45 AM

Awesome. I get to continue waking up these senior citizens for 2 more years. At least when they sleep in the seat I don’t have to listen to anymore stories about “plumbing in the 72” and how they used to fly the plane in the zipper all the time.

Listening to the young guys cry about how bad they have it about the same as listening to their grand kids crying about losing their binky. Chicks dig pilots in skinny pants!

Skinny jeans go in and out of style. But you know what never goes away? Herpes.

Listening to the older guys cry about deserving Age 67 because Age 65 screwed them is just as bad.......

Or how they waited until it was the best time to cry about raising the age allowing those above them retire first......

Oh not to mention still pushing for raising the age due to a shortage when 2000 pilots just found themselves on the street.......

You're wasting your time using reason on this subject - it's purely emotional. Everyone "feels" like they "still got it". Everyone feels that it's the other guy that lost a step. Everyone feels that the guys they fly with still enjoy them. They're all the cool captain.

The last time this crap happened (age 65) I was on the bus listening to a discussion between a guy going from 727 FE back to 757 Capt and complaining about the FMS while the guy he was bitching with was an MD-11 Capt who was irritated that he couldn't get his son hired.

Self awareness and logic is never a part of this conversation.

PanelApe 05-06-2026 01:33 PM

Not the right time

This is total Garbage. Those senior Captains had their time in the left seat. It’s time for them to get out of my way! This is clearly not the right time for an age change……it should absolutely wait until I’m a wide body Captain turning 60. Then it definitely will be the right time to change that age limit - we can’t support age discrimination!

Everyone gets old and eventually has to retire. Trash talking and calling guys names never wins your argument. You to will get to the end and but I know you will retire at 55 because you want the young guys to save the company and the union.

Even more fun when they dont realize they just deleted every altitude constraint in the STAR while doing that.

Sandybeach 05-06-2026 04:03 PM

I know all the young guys are Ace of the base or king of Embry Riddle and would never make a mistake.

Or alternatively, maybe they just want the same opportunities that the folks ahead of them had. That's actually pretty freaking understandable.

Sandybeach 05-07-2026 06:18 AM

So they crap all over their fellow pilots, not everyone supports it.

Elevation 05-07-2026 11:43 AM

I'm 47. Twerps don't know what they don't know and will often have deeply misplaced priorities. Old guys are afraid to take a "risk" like using climb direct or descend now. Both old and young will get defensive in a heartbeat. So all are equally capable or crap, but in different ways. When it comes to stories "Back on the classic" and "My opportunities suck" are about equally interesting. What IS interesting is our rush to get ours at the expense of our brethren. We've seen it time and time again across accidents, negotiations, legal efforts, etc.

Try to be a person rather than an ambition-monster. We generally struggle in this regard. Retire at 65. Try to learn something from the old guys before they depart. Get away from the hotel fire pit and the bros.

It is really strange that you view a desire to realize an identical opportunity as "crapping" on someone.

Well put. Here’s what I don’t get: Who the h€ll wants to fly past 65 anyway? My plan has always been to go at 60 & I’m starting to contemplate bailing even sooner. “Optimizers” (in reality, sodomizers) are here to stay across the industry & schedules aren’t getting easier anytime soon. As I move into my 50s, I’m finding myself far more concerned with the health aspect of continuing this career into my later years vs making a few extra bucks. After all, what are a couple of houses, an airplane, a boat, etc worth to me if I don’t have time to enjoy them in retirement due to ill health or death? I think big factor in these latest pushes by the white hair crowd is that their generation seems to define themselves by their jobs/positions. They simply can’t see a day when they’re not running a cockpit. The job is the end all. Younger generations, not so much. Friends, family, & interests outside aviation are bigger drivers for them. While a good job, flying is still just a job & at the end of the day they’d rather be doing something other than making some executive rich at the expense of their health & personal relationships. Everyone’s gonna do what works for them, but I know which of those philosophies I identify with.

HoursHore 05-07-2026 02:21 PM

After test driving retirement the last 6 months, I cannot imagine going a day longer than I need to.

Seems to me that the entitlement in this case lies with the older crowd. I'm older, have been in the left seat for a long time, and lived through the first age change. It sucked and I cannot believe that we're considering shafting another group.

Herpes can lay dormant for decades. Then out of the blue comes an active outbreak. Once the virus is active it can be spread.

Sandybeach 05-08-2026 07:47 AM

Says a future Herpes!

Word!
Six months in, you ain’t test driving no more, you’re in the fast lane … going fifty in a sixty-five! Gramps. Get out the way!

And that goes for all the gramps: get out the way. You can’t hang in a posted sixty-five and it will only get more confusing in a posted sixty-seven. six? seven? ha ha.

But I get why people want to stay: the sexy polyester uniform; chatting with the first officer with a sock puppet, you know, one dummy talking with another, more ha ha; getting away from the ole ball and chain; standing in the lobby of a Holiday Inn looking all important and stuff with a company credit card; getting the discounted breakfast buffet; and avoiding at all costs the final chapter, especially when it’s nothing but empty pages before the story ends with an R.I.P.

Get a hobby!

That being said, 67 is inevitable. Too many old people running the show, and they are all brain damaged to the point where they actually believe that they are not only competent but at the top of their game.

The TA will pass by 80 percent. I’m taking the over. Where my bookie at?

Got it. Moonbeam has herpes.

I have hemorrhoids.

Who else wants to share?

(I don’t actually have hemorrhoids, really, they aren’t mine, baby.)

I don’t think I have herpes yet. My only goals now in life are for DeSantis to eliminate property taxes on my 5 bedroom 4 bath house in the Villages of Florida and not catch syphilis from my neighbors. Mainly because The Villages Health clinic had to file bankruptcy because of 350 million in Medicare fraud. Who would have thought.

it’s different because they (you??) are actually grandparents where as people in their 20s, 30, and 40s are none of those things inherently

Yea these young pilots got it easy today . No having to suck it out at real regionals for 6 years flying turboprops for **** pay . They come right out of instructing into jet aircraft and then get hired at mainlines with low time . They should push retirement to 69 .

YAS QUEEN.

Yesterday the tallest person at the shooting range was 6'4". She was a woman. Therefore despite what we commonly know, this exception proves that all women are taller than men.

None of us were born knowing how to fly. Had to learn it which is experience. Delta LCA/PCS friend said at a meeting with all LCA’s after some poor decisions on the line. Chief pilot asked how do we teach experience in a few months? Someone in the crowd said that’s why they call it experience, takes time!

Wow, you must have been hanging off the edge of your seat during that riveting anecdote!

Your buddy share his Polident with you after that?
