Saw this on both the company site and a blurb from ALPA. Best of luck to our captains riding the race, just have one little question......

Race Across America (RAAM) is one of the most respected and
longest running endurance sports events in the world. RAAM is seen as a pinnacle of athletic achievement not only in cycling circles but the greater sporting community as well. Racers annually raise collectively in excess of $2 million for a wide range of charitable causes............................................ .........will begin their race in Oceanside, CA and peddle across the nation, crossing the finish line in Annapolis, MD. The team has nine days to complete their trek of 3000 miles, across 12 states, climbing some 170,000 vertical feet, but they are aiming to complete it in just seven days!

Great feat, but am I missing something. 3000 divided by 7 is 428 miles a day!! Google maps has the distance (off highways) at 2875, still 410 a day for 7 days. Even 9 days would be 333.3 or 319.4 depending on your numbers.

I consider it good to do 50 in a day. I figure doing a century to be worthy but, 300 plus a day?? Does someone have their numbers mixed up?

Open to amateur and professional racers, in solo, 2-, 4- and 8-person relay teams...

Isn't it a relay though? I understood it to mean that the daily riding would be split between all on the team. Divide that 410 miles per day by the number of team members (4, I think) and it becomes more realistic. Still a feat though at 100ish miles a day for seven days in a row.

They started Saturday. They are running first in the 4 person team (50-59) division.

It is a relay, one of them is always on the road. You can have more work together to take advantage of drafting, but you jeopardize rest.
