It never ends
AVA, voluntary vacation cancellations, it never ends! No leverage? I am still amazed.
Not trying to bring up and beat an old subject to death, but! Maybe next time there will be a little more insite. But I wont be around. Guess I will have to follow on this info site!

I dunno. I think the vacation cancellations are a little misleading. For example, I don't think they are doing it in my seat because they're short, they're not. I don't know if they are even buying back more than one person's vacation, but they have to do the buyback to generate the AVA. And they're doing AVA on very few days. And on those days, they're generally denying you for "sufficient reserves".
So my theory is that they're doing the vacation bb and AVA purely just in case they get in a bind. If there's a major weather event, they can open up the AVA and fill the trips. I don't think they're doing it because they're short and that we would have had any particular leverage. It's actually a pretty smart strategy.

Pretty smart or just another opportunity to poke holes in our contract (and poke us in the eye)?
I'm really glad to have this job and I feel like I work hard for my pay and benefits, but I hate to feel taken advantage of. Are we still wet-leasing from last Peak? Wet leasing was never intended to last year round.
They seem to be hiring in significant numbers but VBB, AVA, and known (and contractually compliant) wet leasing suggets we're in another round of p*ss poor Management planning? Maybe peak snuck up on them this year?
It's disappointing ...

No VBB in HKG in December. We've got about 70 captains now on the list out there, so the manning may finally be "normal" in that FDA. Usually trips only last a day or two in open time before someone either picks them up or is drafted, so I guess AVA won't be a factor there over peak.
