Offline jumpseat cancellation question

Hi guys,

I am trying to find up to how many hours (or minutes) prior to push time I have to cancel my jumpseat listing by. The policy letter on the ALPA jumpseat site only says "I should cancel it if I'm not going to use it", but it doesn't specify any time on it.

Thanks!

Most of the other airlines are really nice about giving me jumpseats and I'm glad to return the favor when I can.

I can't recall ever seeing or hearing an "official" canceling cut off time but ... you might be taking a seat away from a commuting pilot who couldn't book a jumpseat because they were "full". We actually have a "Jumpseat Department." Have you called them and asked your question?

It sounds like your planning to cancel at the last minute? The courteous thing would be to cancel as far in advance as possible.

And ... Welcome aboard!

"For Personal, Decade, or Staging travel - Cancel flights at least 6 hours before the scheduled departure time.
For Business travel - Cancel flights at least 2 hours before the scheduled departure time."

Check with Jumpseats 800-544-9040 if it's a last minute issue about the offline policy.

Yeah I know the implications of it. I just don't know if I'm going to be able to make it until the last minute. Thanks.

I really doubt they can blacklist you, like they can for FDX employees. Do your best, if you miss it for operational reasons everyone understands. If you get there late call the ramp and let them know.

I kind of wondered that. Say your flight gets delayed due to mx or gets swept into another city and you missed your booked jumpseat, if they would suspend you for that.

My experience has been that if you call the Jumpseat folks and tell them what the situation is, they're fine with that. I think it's only if you totally blow off the jumpseat that eyebrows get raised.

I had a non FDX js'er no show out of IND a week ago. No drama on our end and I suspect none from IND or Memphis JS. I know we have a penalty at FDX for FDX no shows, but has anyone ever been backlisted that is a pilot for FDX? I've never heard a story of our own being parked after a JS no show, and I'v had many no shows FDX crews on flights I worked.

Don't call and leave your cancellation on the voicemail either like it tells you to do. Always press the button to speak to someone and tell them. I made that mistake and they actually called me and asked me where I was at. I had to explain to them I left a cancellation on the voicemail they said oh that thing never works right.
