1. I am going to go Air Guard as a pilot, does fedex hire Active Guard/Reserve members?
2. What are the chances of getting a FO position on a MD 11?
3. Is the purple runway the way to go?
4. What's the secret minimums such as age, hours and background Fedex looks for?
5. I'm only 17, could I get to fedex by 25?

I’m gonna base this in your wanting to be at FedEx by 25.

1. Yes, but commitments to the military will probably prevent you from building time as fast as a guy whose went to the regionals.
2. If you get here in 8 years, and they haven’t retired them by that point, very high chance of flying the MD.
3. You will build time too slowly with purple runway. Sounds like a good program, but you won’t be as competitive in terms of flight time as the regional guys.
4. Mil guys get on with less time, but besides them, your probably going to need 5,000 ish to start. Just my guess.
5. You definitely could if you take a more aggressive path. I was just discussing this with a coworker a few days ago. Get your ratings as fast as you can and FIRST. Accelerated program like ATP would be best. Make sure you do this somewhere that has great weather too. Get your degree online while you build your time as a CFI and at the regionals. I bet you could make it by 25 as long as that’s your mission and you stick to it. Your gonna have to put relationships, fun toys, and all that stuff on the back burner for a timeline like that to work. But of you can make it happen..$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Is anyone able to post the bid pack for 757 or Airbus? If not the whole thing, just the parts that show the lines?

The UPS group seems to be alot more unified. FDX pilots are a bunch of independent contractors.

We're unified because we have to be. :) Otherwise, we'd get zero QOL/QOW perks from the company. Even the small things that are a given at other major carriers are an uphill battle at UPS.

It also helps that our union only represents UPS pilots.

Thanks for the reassuring answers, I should be able to get this online degree in a year or two as well as getting my commercial, then get done with UPT by 19-20 build time in the military and then I might consider the purple runway or regional by 21 or 22 and build more time and hopefully by 25 all my hard work might pay off and be lucky enough to get the job at FedEx. I saw someone mention you need a PE to get the interview, what exactly is a PE? Also thanks to anyone who is willing to help me on my journey by giving me advice or guidance, wish you all the best 😉

Anyone currently flying for FedEx live in Sioux Falls, SD? Had some commute questions. Thanks. Ryan

Your not going to be able to do any flying in the military without a 4 year degree. Even online, that’s a a bit overly optimistic in a year or two. Have you thought about getting your degree and ratings then applying for a spot in the guard? That could be a good route without committing to the military up front. You also know what your signing up for. It would be quite a shock to sign on the dotted line and then get assigned drones instead of airplanes.

PE is a Personal Endorsement from current FedEx pilot. You have to know someone personally(or at least should have to) and have to have flown with them to get one.

Oh sorry, im must of phased that wrong. yes, that is my plan to get a spot in the Air Guard once I have my ratings and degree. I actually was going to go the active route before I started doing some more in depth research and learned that I would not be able to get out of active service after the 10 year active pilot commitment, that's when I realized how much better the Guard really is, being able to serve that 10 years on reserve while able to build hours and seniority sooner is a much better deal. I've also heard different opinions on the QOL of a active duty pilot and don't belive its near as good, thanks for the reply 👍

Sorry if you think im at troll....I'm just an aspiring pilot, and I set audacious goals unlike most. Feel free to ask me any questions or if you have any advice.

Ok if you are not here is a realistic timeline if you want the Air Force to pay for your flying training:

Get 4 year degree. (18-22)
Rush unit and get hired while you pursue private pilot license. (23-24)
UPT/MWS training (24-25)
Initial seasoning at your unit (26-27)
Regional job now that you have the restricted atp mins (27-29)
Regional captain (30-31)
Enough turbine PIC for FedEx(barely) at 31-ish.

You could get to FedEx faster by not doing military and going to an aviation college, graduating as a CFI, instructing for a year or two, getting regional job at 24ish, captain at 26ish, FedEx at 28ish.

Good luck.
