Max pay
What would be the best for a new joiner to start with ? 8/6 or PBS
Is PBS based on seniority ? What would be a chance of a new joiner to get a max out pay schedule ?
What would be the best combo to max out your paycheck ?

Probably do PBS and do 220 or more days which pays $5k more. If you have a line with less than what you want, you could offer to do extra days while on rotation. Anyways, the 220 comes out to $113ish base. $5k for >220. plus 10% but youll see less than that first year since it’s paid out in arrears. Plus average overtime, early start, extra days ~$4k+ (YMMV). Per diem $9k. Fuel bonus $4k or less. Let’s say you referred someone since being hired. That’s $3k (although I’ve heard of folks not getting paid out. You need to fill a special form and make sure they receive it.) You could be close to 150 year 1. Now will that all be acquired in the first 365 days? No since fuel bonus and 10% PBS is paid out in arrears. Someone else
hear can give you info on that. The bonus structure will be different on DRL and ILC. The 10% is only FO PBS. Take into consideration you won’t be spending any money on food on the road. I wouldn’t recommend 220 days but to each their own. I’m not including retirement this.

PBS
PBS by far. Bonus structures are mostly tied to the PBS system.
3 strategies:
1. Bid medium amount of days like 15, then offer to extend for 2xOT if it's available.
2. Bid max days possible, you'll likely see 8 day rotations, and you can waive some of the days off "yellow lines" and go from there.
3. Watch for the "build custom long schedules" email and offer to go nuts on the road. They are custom built long-stretches for the single folks among us lol
I bid for 12-14 days; I have gotten 17-20 days this quarter no matter what I bid. A little burned out, but not the end of the world. I'm also on track for like 140k if this 1st quarter 2023 keeps up (I won't let it) but you get the idea. Enjoy.
