Default Flexibility with base/2 hour drive req

How flexible is Flexjet with their public requirement to live within 2 hours of your base? I live between 1:55 to 2:25 of the nearest Flexjet base, depending on traffic/time of day. Hope this isn't a deal breaker.

Thank you.

I haven't looked for what policy they've published, but I'm pretty sure that the requirement is 90 minutes, which would make your situation clearly outside the policy.

In theory, the rule exits for both parties' benefit. They don't want you doing a fatiguing 2-hour drive before you've even started duty on day one, nor driving exhausted for 2 hours after a long final day.

I would talk with your recruiter, but I think if you're honest with them, my guess is that they'll probably say no.

There is no specific written policy on how close/far you can live from your crew base. The real answer is as long as you're rested and ready to begin a 14 hr duty day on day 1 they don't care where you are before then. This means you'll likely be putting hotel nights on your own dime if you care about resting or leaving your house to duty on an hour prior to the 1st flight out of the day, every day 1, for the entirety of your time at Flexjet. That may not be a dealbreaker for them, but is it for you?

Like He said there is no specific written policy. Everything he stated is spot on. I'm roughly 2.5 from my base and they don't care. I even told them my position when I interviewed and they asked if I thought I'd have any issues getting to work? I said no. They said then we don't have a problem. I've never missed a day or called out fatigued due to my commute. It's one of those things that you understand what your signing up for. If it does become any issue you can expect to have a conversation with management. Nothing inherently negative, but a "Hey what's going on?" "You need to figure this out." and possibly after a time you may get asked "Do you feel like this is a good fit?" As long as you make your positioning flights they really don't care. Obviously, as with any pilot position living in a base will absolutley give you the best QOL. To Flex's credit they are working on making improvements to the way they position us on our first and last days. It's made enough of a difference for me that I decided to drop my crash pad. So it's definitely doable.

If your official base is xxx but the town you live in, which is 2 hours from base, has flights from 3 different carriers to 4 different hubs, with several departures every day, will they let you change your flights to your home airport?

No, they won't. You can request that your preferred airport be added to the domicile list but they will not airline you to or from a non-domicile airport, even for out of domicile requests. Once your request has been submitted to add a domicile, you can probably expect for them to either ignore it, or 'review' it and then deny it unless it meets their specific requirements. Those requirements are not shared with flight crew members.

they’ve added a few domiciles in the last couple years due to pilots submitting requests. We still are behind NetJets which recently offered all domiciles (regular and grandfathered) to be utilized by all pilots.

We still have a “grandfather” list of bases available to pilots who’ve been here before the rule took place.

In fact during an overnight I met a pilot who was lobbying management for a base in one of the Dakotas. He moved his entire family to Texas in the interim. The next month I saw on an updated list that his preferred domicile was opened…

Is there a list of these domiciles?

Specifically (for me) are MCO, PBI, SRQ, RSW and/or TPA considered domiciles?

All 5 are Flexjet domiciles.
