Default ATP Multi to ATP SE - Take Written Again?

Question for gurus out there. I have a ATP Multi and trying to fly SE for fun.... not for money. I do not have a SE rating as all my flying is military and Airlines. I went to local FBO and instructor said the easiest to get me legal to flying a SE is taking a ATP SE checkrides with an examiner. He wants me to fly with him until I'm comfortable with the airplane and G1000 suite... flying approaches, etc. said after I'm comfortable he'd send me to the examiner. He also said based on His research I might need to take the ATP Written again... is that correct? Why in the world would someone with a Multi ATP need to take this again? Three related questions:

1. does anyone know if here is a minimum SE time reqt before taking the ATP SE check?

2. Do I need to take a ATP Written if I already have a ATP?

3. Any other quicker methods to getting a SE license?

Thanks in advance.

If you have an ATP Multi, no you do not need to re-take the written.

There is no minimum time required before the "ATP add-on".

Doing the ATP-SE add on is the fastest way.

61.165(e) says you don't have to take the single engine written to add on to the MEL ATP. However 61.159 says you need 50 hours in the class of airplane (in your case SEL) to apply for an ATP in that class.

Here is a link to the FAA Knowledge testing Matrix:
https://www.faa.gov/training_testing...ing_matrix.pdf

The "added rating" knowledge exam applies to the Helicopter ATP. see page 4.

Correct me if I am wrong but I don't believe their is an "Instuctor sign off" for this checkride either! Of course you need to check that you have the high performance and complex signoffs and a solo endorsement for the single engine airplane.

Good point, stand corrected on what I posted above.

Correct, no signoff required, and also the practical does not have to be accomplished in either a HP or complex aircraft. I did mine in a 172.

Thanks all... I'm doing mine in a DA40 with G1000. Will my 17.8 hours flying T-41s (C172 back in 1988 count?) back in LATR (ROTC) count towards this SE time?

Absolutely! Do you have any single engine jet?
