LIFT

My daughter has her PPL with about 400 hours and is working on her instrument. She recently got a quote from LIFT for $50k if she came in with her instrument done. 9 months to CFI's.

Any thoughts?

That definitely seems high for a Part 61 Commercial (SE+ME), CFI, and CFII. Even if they are charging very high rates for their aircraft, I'd think an absolute top dollar would be around $35k including checkrides, books, supplies, and everything.

Seems like a lot for a school in the midwest. Also there will be weather delays in that area, but that inconvenience might be OK if the student can live at home.

If this includes a ME rating and MEI, that would be more reasonable.

There is quite a large discussion on LIFT in the Republic section of the forum. The consensus seems to be that it isn't as good a deal as first advertised. I'm in a similar situation to your daughter and I turned them down and will continue progressing at my local school.

Yes, it includes ME and MEI.

should be able to complete all single engine stuff for less than 20K if she already has 400 hrs. the mutli comm/ifr add on and MEI shouldnt cost more than 12K

We have gotten estimates from every flight school within a reasonable distance. And we're looking at a $40k average. And it would take quite a bit longer to get it done. Not a huge difference.

Maybe not a huge difference, but remember LIFT has a training contract that requires a 5 year commitment following completion of training. Im not sure if your daughter has received a copy of the contract yet, but read it carefully when you get it.

If she already has 400 hours, why not just go to one of the 30 day commercial / CFI programs... they cost about 10K, and then she could instruct earn some cash and then finish the rest of her ratings with no debt..

Where can we find info on those types of programs?
