Default Long Island NYC.

Is ATP in Trenton NJ the nearest school to NYC?
I will be going all in the summer and need to plan out my training.
I'm near republic airport in long island. Local FBO seem so so so expensive.
Any advice...

This is what I looking at now.

FBO Nassau Flyers
Membership costs $150 for a six month
CESSNA (C-152) dual$126
CESSNA (C-172) dual$146

Did you check around Islip or Brookhaven? I did my PPL at NFI. The instruction was good but way overpriced!!! I did my IFR - MEI here: www.prairieairservice.com, surprisingly they've trained a bunch of NYers over the years.

HANDS DOWN CHEAPEST..

Northeast Aviation.. Robbinsville, NJ (1/2 hour from NYC)

Piper Warrior --- $72 wet... and then $20 for the instructor

Block time available too... so if you know you are going to def do all of your training with them, you may be able to negotiate the first 40 hours (required mins) for somewhere around $2500 for the airplane...

PM me if you want more info

Good prices, but I wouldn't want to drive to Jersey to fly every week! The traffic and gas would negate the price benefit to me.

Robbinsville, NJ is 90 miles away but the price is right...
I am thinking is may be worth the trip.

Slice, thanks again for the valuable advice. Are local to NY? I have looked at the prairieairservice.com site and found it interesting I value recommendations and have found a few here for it. I'll take a second look at Brookhaven.

Not anymore, DC area now. If it's 90 to RBV you can also look further east. East Hampton, West Hampton, etc. Don't know about prices but anything beats crossing the Hudson weekly! Hell, even look at southern CT.

well it depends on how many hours you are going to put into it per week.. if you can find a way to devote weekends to flying a lot of hours and get it banged out right away, the CFI bob will be more than glad to accomodate. Bob is an older guy from Staten Island, great guy... secondly, he owns a warrior that he flies out of FRG... and yes, he makes the commute everyday to N87 (robbinsville).

Not a bad commute from SI. Getting off LI is a different story. Usually takes me an hour from Nassau Cty to the other side of the Verrazano and that's with little to no delays. I don't think it would be worth it in the long run. Too much time wasted in transit.

even for the block time money... i think today, being able to do a PPL for under $5K is pretty good, assuming there is a good level of proficiency
