Default FAA Checkout

So a guy from the FAA wants to get checked out in one of our airplanes. Anyone out there have any experience/advice from a CFI stand point other than the usual make sure all the paper work and standards are met?

Oh God. Have another instructor do it?!

JK.

Just make sure he fills out the paperwork correctly and go over stuff with him like another renter. If he's expecting any favors cause he's FAA - well, don't dish 'em out.

Yeah, he wouldn't cut you slack on the other end. Like MHM said, treat him like any other customer.

From the CFI standpoint, make sure ALL of the airworthiness paperwork on the aircraft is proper and any deferred items are done IAW 91.213.

Think of it as a compliment that the FAA would actually consider flying in your aircraft.

I'll 2nd that, or it could be they're looking to shut you down! J/m Anyways, like above, treat them like any avg. Joe, or treat them like they know nothing, to make sure they actually know what they are doing. Just because they work for the FAA doesn't mean they are the best. I once checked out a F-18 pilot in a 172, I was impressed he did as well as he did, seeing how he hadn't flown a single in 5+yrs, and going from 700+kts to 70.

Ive checked out FAA and ATC guys before. Just cover your bases on paperwork and applicable regs. Give a really thorough checkout and performance paperwork. My experience is that they are a lot like cops. The rules dont apply to themselves just everyone else.

Its a good way to build good contacts over at the FSDO. You never know when you might need their help or advise.
