Can you do this on your own ?? and if so, where do you take the test. I see ATP has a 1 day crash course for ATP rating but not for commercial.

You can do it on your own with an endorsement. Just get the Gleim book and work it over two or three times and take the test. It should not take you more than a week depending on how much you work at it. Make sure you study though and know the information. There is alot more stuff in there than you are used to with the PVT and the IR

You can buy the Gleim Commercial study book, study everything in it on your own and at your own pace, then find an instructor to endorse your logbook when you are ready to take the test. Most FBO's have testing centers and I think most of them use LaserGrade software to do it.

Here is a list of testing centers from the FAA. http://www.faa.gov/education_researc...st_centers.pdf

I took it a few weeks ago and just studied the Gleim and took practice tests online until I was satisfied with my practice scores. Then, I called a local FBO, set up a test date and then came in and they endorsed me to take it.

Basically if you show up and look like you're prepared, anyone will endorse you...I mean, you are the one dropping 90 dollars so I assume they'll assume you are prepared if you are willing to do that.

Good luck, and make sure you study from a 2007 edition! Don't mess up like me and use an outdated book. I used the 2003 Gleim and missed a question because I had never seen it before!

2003 may be outdated but the 2005 test prep software is what is current right now. If you have a recent copy laying around don't feel the need to go buy the 2007 edition...nothing changes from year to year besides a new airplane on the cover.

I was so mad when I took the commercial written. I studied my hiney off for weeks because I wanted to get a 100%. Final score....99%. The lady congratulated me, and I was ****ed because in my mind I might as well have gotten a 71% for what it mattered. lol

The good thing with making a score like that is that you learn more than merely shooting for 'passing.' From reading the answers so many times, you can basically recite verbatim much of the questions.

When I took the Commercial written, I passed with a 97%. I don't feel it was wasted effort because it made my oral exam quite easy. The examiner figured I knew my regs, and just quizzed me on my knowledge of the aircraft and the aerodynamics of the maneuvers. I second getting the Gleim book. I studied it endlessly for a week, and it really helped. On some of the difficult calculation questions, I knew the answer without calculating it because I had seen that problem/answer so many times.

Good luck!

If you have an outdated Gliem book, just get on their web site and print out all the question-bank changes since your revision.
