School & Work= Good Idea???
Hello,
I am just wondering about how hard it will be going to work for my first job (most likely some sight seeing company) and still go to to college. I should be finished with my AA in March and would have about 40 units after that to complete. I would be taking the classes online, which I am doing already, and am just wondering if it is a good idea to take a few classes while I am flying? Any insights or experiences would be appreciated.

one thing at a time...
Finish you degree then move on and don't look back...You may be setting yourself up for failure by not getting it done now...I'm sure you dont want to end up five years down the line a few hours short of the degree...

FLy First school can wait. Opportunity knocks only for a little while. College will always be there. I would take online courses while I flew. The regionals are full of people like that.

Get your degree first. There's plenty of jobs out there and trying to finish school while working as a regional pilot full time is very difficult, especially during the first few years.
Major in something other than aviation too... it's fine to have an aviation degree, but such a degree is totally worthless if you ever decide to leave the field or want to try something new. Try something like aviation management or business, that way it ties into two fields. I wish I had done that- I'm going back to school now for an MBA, simply because my BS in Aeronautics is of no value anymore...

I agree with SkyHigh. Fly now! School will always be there, but your medical, job, etc may not. I also agree that you should get a degree in something NOT AVIATION when you decide to get into school. It is totally worthless when you get into the second career of real estate, or insurance sales, or whatever you plan to retire on.

My name is Suranga and am a Sri Lankan. I'm 20 yrs old and completed my PPL. Currently I'm studying for the UK CAA frozen ATPL examination in December and logging my hours for the CPL\IR. I've been reading through some of the posts and like the other newbies at this am totally at a loss at how I am to log those hours required by companies prior to being considered for a job. In my country, jobs are extremely hard to come by. Sri Lankan airlines has a cadet pilot program but influence plays a major role in the selection process. Domestic aviation is not exactly booming due to the current local situation which I am sure most of you would be familiar with. Therefore, I have no other choice but to look elsewhere for salvation!
Do any of you have any ideas that could help me out? It would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I worked 4 years in college. Think of it like this. While yes it sucks. My resume has ABC and Dell computers on it. Juices it up a little bit. And that one day where you can get time off. Thursdays in my case, I become the guy in the pictures I posted lol.

go to school and work... im currently at embry-riddle in daytona as a junior with my CFI and CFII and working at a local flight school 10-20 hrs a week. Its not too hard you just have to learn to manage your time... good luck
