Question Private written course - King, Sporty's, etc?

Asking for a friend whose kid is planning on getting his private. I've been out of the game too long to have any worthwhile opinions. There are a ton of online written prep courses, King, Sporty's, Gleim, Rod Machado, etc, does anyone have recent experience with any of these, and what did you think?

King courses are excellent, if what you're after is video of the kings standing in front of a camera and talking. Otherwise, not so much.

Sporty's courses are good.

I have used King Schools for everything after private (thru CFI & ATP) and was happy with the product so I would assume the PPL course is just as good. They have been updating their material over the years so I would guess there is very little original content in the PPL course with John & Martha cracking dad jokes from the 90’s.

Otherwise, I would assume all other companies are just as good. Not sure about the others but at least with King Schools the content is available to you in the future for review later at any time, if desired.

To me Gleim is the best. I bought the software and the book. I did pass the PAR - FAA knowledge test first try with a high score. Currently studying for IR following the same pattern (software and book). Keep in mind that only a very few preparation courses offer the software and book option. Good Luck!

They are all equally good. Best thing to do is look up sample lessons from each and see which they like best.

Everything I know about aviation, I learned from John and Martha on VHS. That's some deep yoghurt.

Im doing the PPL now at a 141 Cessna Pilot Center. We have King through that and I bought Sportys on the side for extra learning because the books is where I have always been weak. So far I enjoy and am learning more with Kings than Sportys. There is regular PPL Kings, and the Cessna Pilot School one. Id imagine the regular Kings one is similar but I dont know for fact. But again, Im very happy with Kings. Hope that helps.

I used Kings. It was okay at first but when I started studying for my check ride, I found I didn't know much of the info and used youtube a lot. My instructor sent me several Sporty's videos which went into much more technical detail then Kings did and really helped. I just started Instrument and I'm using Sporty's this time.

I used the King’s course. I thought it was very cheesy but good info. Also Prepware has apps for iPhone on each rating. I believe the app is $10 each and it is money well spent as it is made of questions right from the test. Now as a CFI with students who use all of the courses I think they are all good. The one thing people always struggle with after studying are the VOR questions.
