Default ATP with No check ride and foreign type

Hi all,

Just a quick Q. I have a foreign verified ICAO license and am converting to get the FAA ATP. I hold a DH8-400 type and learned that I can convert that to put on my future FAA cert. Im completing the ATP-CTP course + exam in two weeks. I was wondering if ANYONE knew if I can show proof of my canadian type rating and be issued the full ATP after the exam and course completion. I plan to call the FSDO on tuesday, but with it being friday, no answer from em.

Apologies if this seems like a stupid or silly question, but ive found no info on whether a foreign type nullifies the need to do an FAA check ride for the ATP.

Short answer: you have to do the checkride.

Only the PPL/IR can be converted directly, via paperwork or written test.

CPL/ATP require a ride.

5-594 JOINT FAA AND TRANSPORT CANADA CIVIL AVIATION (TCCA)
AGREEMENT TO CONVERT FAA PILOT CERTIFICATES AND TCCA PILOT
LICENSES.
A. FAA and TCCA Agreement. On August 31, 2006, the FAA and TCCA signed an
agreement to convert Canadian pilot licenses and U.S. pilot certificates (i.e., to issue an FAA
pilot certificate on the basis of a pilot license issued by the TCCA and vice versa). This
conversion procedure is available to holders of FAA pilot certificates and TCCA pilot licenses
for the airplane category at the private, commercial, and ATP certification levels of licenses or
certificates and includes the following aircraft ratings or qualifications: instrument rating, class
ratings of Airplane Single-Engine Land (A SEL) and Airplane Multiengine Land (AMEL), type
ratings, and night qualification addressed under part 61 and Canadian Aviation Regulations
(CAR) Part IV. The FAA and TCCA have issued advisory circulars (AC) that explain the
process for converting Canadian pilot licenses and U.S. pilot certificates.
B. Conversion Process. The procedures and information for this conversion process for
converting Canadian pilot licenses and U.S. pilot certificates are addressed in Figure 5-65,
Application Based on FAA/TCCA IPL Agreement.
