ZMATT,

Hey bud. You may want to look into Comair Academy at Sanford/Orlando airport or Flight Safety in Vero Beach. They do a really great job. I am sure that you might be able to find smaller flight schools closer to where you live. I used to go to Florida Tech in Melbourne and you could get private lessons there, but that would be about an hour drive for you. (now that I think of it, Vero Beach would be kinda a drive for you...) Anyways. Look on www.airnav.com and check out the different airports around your area. Def. try Winterhaven, Lakeland, Sanford - I know for a fact they all have flight schools. Private Message me if you need help. I may be able to pull out an old Sectional (Navigation) chart and tell you other airports to look at close by.

Default Living in Central FL

Anyone have any suggestions on where to live in the Vero Beach area? Laxrox, it sounds like you're from the area? I may be moving down there from South Carolina and was curious as to where to find cheap housing. I have two dogs so Ill need a house or something. Looking online, it looks like its going to be pretty expensive.

Hey bud,

Check out www.apartments.com

That should be helpful. I have been looking at that to help me with Cost of Living info for when I get hired. I like to 'work the numbers' in advance so I know what I am getting into.

I used to live/fly in/out of Melbourne. MLB is about 30 miles directly north of Vero Beach. Vero is a nice area, from what I remember. The airport is small, but nice. Controllers are VERY friendly there. Anything else? Don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the info, Ill check that site out. Is Vero a kind of retirement area of sorts? I get that impression from the info I have gathered.

Haha! Well, most of FL is bud. Orlando, Boca Raton, Tallahassi, Tampa and Miami are the only cities that I can think of in FL that are for the 'young croud.' I am sure that you will find your niche in Vero though. Google Search the club and bar scene in Vero - if that's your bag?! While you are down there, check out Cocoa Beach - Ron Jon surf shop is pretty cool. Jimmy Buffett has a resturaunt in Key West and Orlando I believe. Downtown Disney is pretty cool for Clubbin' if you are over 21. LOTS of hot chicks there...ooooooWEE! Hehe! And don't forget...after a long day of flying, there is ALWAYS the beach. VERY RELAXING and a GREAT place to study! Anyways, if you need any more help, let me know...

Like most of Florida Vero does have it's retiree population but there's still a decent amount of year round people.

I'm not sure now but I think it's about 50k while just south of Vero is Ft. Pierce. (about 10 minutes south) It's a little smaller but has grown fast.

When I lived there about 7 years ago it was about 25k population.
Housing Rentals were pretty low but they've surely gone up with the growth there but probably still cheaper than Vero.

I'm tempted to go back and do some advanced rating training there.
Here's a school in Ft Pierce, though i know nothing about them.
