CFI expire date

I'am asking this question already pretty sure what the outcome is going to be. My cfi expired at the end of august, it slipped my mind was finishing up 121 training and OE. any one have any thoughts on this, also i had enough sign offs to renew it.

You probably need a checkride unless you are buds with a fed. Mine expired years ago. Someday, I'll add-on a CFIG to get it current again.

You can always try to run over to the FSDO and see if they will approve an 8710 on the basis of your signoffs/pass rate, but my guess is that you're stuck taking a checkride again.

but you only have to take one ride and you get the others back (if you have cfi cfii or mei).

You also could go do something fun like a SES cfi and I believe that would count - if you don't have it already...

Sorry, no such thing as a SES CFI :)

If you pass the expiration date then you have two options. Checkride or an add-on instructor rating.

You have to be rated in the plane to instruct in it. I think that's where he was going. But if you add the Seaplane, I don't believe you'd magically get your CFI back. Unless, as noted before, you know a Fed who will help you.

Correct, there is no instructor rating for seaplanes. The CFI-Airplane covers all airplanes land or sea, but you obviously have to be rated in seaplanes to teach. Adding a seaplane rating to your pilot ticket will only allow you to fly seaplanes, not teach in them. You would still need the CFI-airplane.

If you need to re-instate your CFI, a CFII checkride is usually the easiest thing to do, and hopefully the DPE will be gentle after he realizes your situation. A CFI-Glider would be more fun though.

IIRC, there isn't a CFI glider. You can teach in gliders and hot air balloons with just a Commercial certificate. (But don't quote me on that).

I think that may be correct for ballons, but there is definately a Glider CFI cert...I know people who have them.
