Free A&P while CFI-ing

I am interested in getting my A & P license while working as a CFI. I have heard there are some larger universities that will give full time CFIs tuition breaks for working there. Anyone have any info on schools that offer this scenario, and have the A&P curriculum?? Thanks.:D

i haven't heard of anyone giving away a free a&p but you could always apprentice while working at a small fbo. If you work under the supervision of an a&p and get two years of experience, that a&p can sign you off to take the required writtens and o&p's. It takes quite a bit to get your license and most places will want you to make a commitment if they apprentice you. Your best bet to get it done the fastest would be to go to a part 147 school.

In the Navy we laugh when aircrew attend maintenance meetings.....you want to do both?!?

Most university programs are pretty intensive, like 8 hours per day 5 days per week. That makes it pretty difficult to do both.

I can't comment on price breaks, but it would be quite doable to get your A&P while flight instructing at MTSU.

Never heard of that kind of program but I would jump on that if the opportunity presented itself. We had a few guys do that where I instructed but with the current hiring something tells me you wouldn't have the required time to get your A&P before you are hired by an airline (if that's what your going for). Goodluck.

thanks for your replies. Ok, let me ask this another way: what universities out there offer tuition breaks or free tuition for CFIs working there??

I would imagine most do something like that. Universities generally offer tuition deals to ALL regular employees, including professors, cooks, and janitors.

ERAU is offering free tuition to CFI/II MEI insrtuctors. I may be wrong but I believe you can get your A&P with them.
