Explanation of N1 & N2 Speeds
:confused:Title pretty much says it all. I am reading a book about "jet flying" and it talks about N1 & N2 speeds, but can't find what they stand for in any of my Jepp pvt/inst/me/comm books......Can someone shed the light......
Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!!!! |
N1 is the speed of the fan turbine, N2 the speed of the compressor turbine, usually (if not always, I'm not sure) expressed as a percentage.
Is that what you were looking for? |
Yep..........thanks...............

To Add, they are expressed in % of max operating speed, not necessarily max speed. So, you can see some engine limit speeds that are over 100%. The actual RPM is not important as different slit-spool motors spin at different speeds.
