Question Explanation of N1 & N2 Speeds

Title pretty much says it all. I am reading a book about "jet flying" and it talks about N1 & N2 speeds, but can't find what they stand for in any of my Jepp pvt/inst/me/comm books......Can someone shed the light......

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!!!!

N1 is the speed of the fan turbine, N2 the speed of the compressor turbine, usually (if not always, I'm not sure) expressed as a percentage.

Is that what you were looking for?

To Add, they are expressed in % of max operating speed, not necessarily max speed. So, you can see some engine limit speeds that are over 100%. The actual RPM is not important as different slit-spool motors spin at different speeds.
