Question Jaa Atpl

I would like to be able to fly in europe. what do you all think of the JAA ATP and have any of you completed it in the US?

I hear it is tougher, is that true?

Without an JAA ATP are you essentially worthless in other countries? What about the FAA ATP?

Thanks for the input, any comments are welcome!

This is were things get a little complicated.

If you are looking to get a JAA certificate for the sake of getting one you might want to stop and do some research first.

Are you a US citizen only? Do you have a work or stay visa for a particular country?

There are quite a few airlines, world wide, that will hire you based on a US. certificate only. Most of them are NOT in Europe!

Europe is a little bit like the US as far as work and resident permits, very hard to get.

But if you are all set in that respect (as far as Europe is concerned) then you will see that it is quite time consuming and expensive compared to what you are used to here in the US.

Most JAA student's here in the US are on some sort of program that their country have approved and usually they will need to return in order to complete their training. I don't know of any US. school that will enroll a US. student of the the street without some sort prior approval through a JAA country.

Hope this answers your questions!
