An email i recieved from a future pilot looking at the school:

There are certainly good and bad elements, though I don't think I will end up there for my commercial training. I was impressed with their simulators and happy to see fairly new airplanes. For their standard trainer they use Cessna 172 SP models with leather seats which is a nice bonus.

Additionally, they use the local FBO rooms for study and it really is a nice FBO. There is a local flight simulator company at Mather field, it appears that the flight school and the sim. place have made a deal where the students train on the sims and the company gets free sim testing done. They have sims that range from Microsoft sim, king air to a 737 sim, none are full motion though a few have wrap around screens.

There are two issues though that I did not like. Their program is structured by 10-11 week "quarters," each quarter has a different training session focus. The program does not allow you to go out of town during the week during any quarter unless it is an emergency. They also do not allow the student to work faster if he is willing and able. At their pace, it takes over a year to finish the program and begin instructing. (only ground instructing at the beginning)

Another issue for me is that they don't focus on multi engine time. After their program is compete, they end up with only 15 hours or so of multi time. They argued that the airlines are really not looking for multi time at this point so it no big deal. This is contrary to everything I have heard.

Finally, they run their school like a traditional college. They require multiple essays to be admitted, and essays while training.

The cost is around 60k of which they can get you around 40k worth of financing. You come up with the diff. (some scholarships can help they said)

they also do not work with the VA programs, so if that is you, look elsewhere.

Cool sims though.

YOU end up paying for the fancy FBO and leather seats, both unnecessary.

www.prairieairservice.com, good ME instruction at fair prices.
