ERAU worth it?

From a dregree stand point is worth it to get your bachelors from there. I dont care about flight instruction i have that cover but the actual degree do ERAU grads depend to get more interveiws? i'm still in high school working on my PPL and now thinking about college and degrees. my dream as a little kid was to go to ERAU because i hear nothing but good things about that school plus its a 20min
drive from my house so i can cut housing out (thanks dad lol.)

well thats the thing i don't know really what to i know something dealing with aviation becuse my ultimate goal is to be an airline pilot.
any suggestion on that?

well want stay within avition the accounting i dont like mostly my true love is flying ATC sounds nice or Airline management sounds like a good fallback career. :)

Love to here what you captians think. :D

Last time I looked at a CAL application (I'm not quite ready for prime time yet..still haven't filled it out) they had a box to check off if you were an ERAU grad.

Can anyone else verify this info??

I don't think it has as much pull as people like to think. However, there's been thousands of ERAU grads over the years, many of which may be the HR person you send your resume to.

For the degree you get, ERAU is RIDICULOUSLY over priced. I guess if you like an $800/mo student loan payment for the next 20 years, its great. If its something that you can only get at ERAU, thats one thing (but then I'd wonder about its relevance to real world). Otherwise, I'd say try to find a similar degree at a state college and go that route.

I think a few more details about what you want to study and what your ultimate goal is might help you get some better responses.

EDIT: My girlfriend went to Stanford and got her degree for just slightly more than what an ERAU grad will spend (assuming 4 years start to finish and NO flying). Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it.

If you are going to major in Airport Management, Airline Management, Aviation Maintenance Management, Air Traffic Control or Meteorology, then, ERAU is the way to go. Your application will definitely be at the front of the line in terms of consideration.

If you're thinking about flying (Aeronautical Science degree)......forget it. Go to any other University and major in something like Accounting or Physical Therapy and learn to fly at a local FBO. Save your money son. The airlines don't care what you majored in. Having the degree shows perserverance.

"do ERAU grads (tend) to get more interveiws?"

No, they don't. Where did you get that idea?

I went to Riddle and I can say that it does nothing more than check the "I have a four year degree" square on the app. That said, they have some internship ops and reduced mins agreements that other places might not have. In my opinion, none of that comes close to making it worthwhile to go there. But, in the end, you need to research it for yourself and make up your own mind.

I'm an 82 Riddle (PRC) grad and a UPS Capt. Ask away.......

Save your money! I went to a two-year community college, then finished up at a local public university. Paid more for my college car than I did in tuition and books in 4 years. I can't imagine why anybody would want to go to ERAU when so many cheaper options exist!

Listen to this guy! Airlines DO NOT CARE where you get your degree from! If you want to spend that kind of money go to a local college get a master's then use the left over money to go to a school like ATP or ARI-Ben...

over $1000 a credit hour. My buddy pays $1600 or so a month for loans.

I'm going to school next fall, and I've been torn between Embry and UND. Right now I'm leaning towards Embry. They've already given me a scholarship, something UND has not been willing to do as of yet. Embry-Riddle Prescott is also closer to where I live now, but not so close that my parents are nearby. I always wanted to go to school in another state just for the experience, and ERAU will allow me to do that without having to pay $1000 every time I go home for Christmas (UND is expensive to get to, though you can get some OK deals). I've had the privelege to tour the ERAU campus and talk to some of the professors and counselors, and I must say they REALLY love aviation there. It's a very tight small community (less students than my high school). I've talked to several major airline pilots who went to Embry and they were overall glad of the experience. I've also talked to pilots who trained in the military, and pilots who took lessons at the local FBO. They too were glad of their training experience.

I've realized that the Embry vs. cheaper flight school debate is part of the larger Ivy League vs. State College debate. Can you become a great doctor or businessman or lawyer or scientist without going to Harvard? Absolutely. Does this mean that Ivy League schools are pointless? No. Some people just prefer them over other schools, whether it is because of their history, or the atmosphere of the place, or perhaps they like the quality of the staff, or simply because they feel like going there instead of a state school. It is true that most jobs, airline or otherwise, don't care where you went to school. But schools give you experience, and some schools are better than others. Some schools just push you through to get a degree, while others take have a deep passion for their students.

Another thing is that I believe students who go to a more "elite" school will value their education more because it is more valuable. I am pretty sure that a Harvard business major is much more passionate about his education than a guy at Fresno State who went to college because he parents told him to.

Keep this in mind too: Bill Gates is a college dropout, yet he makes billions. Meanwhile there are some college grads who, for whatever reason, are now unemployed and make NO money.

So right now I'm shooting for Embry. They've given me some financial aid, I've applied for a few scholarships, and I'm hoping to get federal aid. Will I value my education less because of it? Absolutely not. Even if the Federal Aid is constant, the money Embry has given me is most certainly NOT constant.

And she probably could've gone to a state school for far less, but chose not to. Why? I don't know personally (obviously), but she probably felt it was a better school for what she wanted to do, and wanted to study in an elite education environment. Congrats to her for studying at such a prestigious school!

I know I talked to you about UND FFB. Although I'm sure UND is a great program, right now I'm swinging towards Embry.

Just my thoughts, let the flaming begin!
