Pilot or dentist? Can't decide

In the end it all boils down to regret. If you become a dentist and leave commercial aviation behind, will you wake up as an old man and regret not chasing that dream? Will you go to sleep wondering what it would have been like to fly that 777 or 747?
There are no guarantees that you would make it, but then there are no guarantees that you'll get through dental school either. Plain and simple, it could all blow up in a second and not turn out the way you wanted it. Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith and go for what you want. Imagine yourself in a successful practice, gobs of money, all the toys you want and flying a shiny new Mooney on the weekends. While flying that Mooney you hear the airliners above you on the radio. Are you envious or happy with your sports car of a piston single?
It is human nature to think the grass is always greener on the other side. Money isn't everything but it sure doesn't hurt. It all comes down to you. Do you want to adjust braces for 35 years or fly airplanes for less money? Do what you think will give you no regrets when you are an old man in front of the fire. Good luck with your decision!

Sorry to add more confusion to the thread and your decision however... I had a Dentist who left his practice and is now with US Airways. It was weird he got on real quick somehow and he never mentioned doing the Regional stuff. But for what its worth some Dentists themselves go back and become Airline Pilots.

I wish I had become and airline pilot.
I regret leaving my dental practice behind.
Each path offers pain and satisfaction. The trick is to find the one that will be best over time.

It is impossible to live your life without regrets. We all are given many choices and paths in life. There are benefits and costs to each path.

The biggest group of inventors are dentists. Don't know why, they just are...
My dad is a retired dentist, owned his own practice, grew up in one of the wealthiest counties in CT... With that said, we never had lots of money, but sure did have lots of time to go on vacations, never lived paycheck to paycheck. My dad is VERY frugal and if it wasn't for some of his inventions, would of had some hard times.
My dad couldn't afford to pay for my flight training, I am paying Sallie Mae back right now.
Listen, I grew up comfortably, I can tell you right now that money does not buy happiness. You must do what you love. I love flying airplanes, I am happy doing what I do, and when I get mad, I just think about that Colombian girl I was with in Equador a couple of weeks ago, and I feel better again.
Everything is from perspective. My dad told me to not be a dentist, in fact he wanted me to do Air Traffic Control... Too many dentists around he says...
Hey, listen, the only person that knows what you need to do is yourself, we can offer all the opinions you want to hear, in the end they won't do anything for you.
Money does not buy happiness, it buys comfort and toys.
