"I would love to fly, and what i was really thinking was flying for some rich people that wouldnt mind paying me six digits to fly them around anywhere. What standards would i have to meet for that? "
Hey Jordon,
I've flying for a total of 27 years and a total of 22 years professionally. I have yet to make six figures in this industry. I know people who have been at this career for 15 years and are making six figures but they went to Southwest not Northwest, United, Delta, etc. Right now I am in the high five figures and happy as can be. The health is good. Lovely wife. Big block of days off even on reserve. Flying a really cool airplane which has been described as long legged and big boobed.
I am hoping for a West Coast base which hopefully should happen when the merger with Delta happens.
If a six figure income is really important, then a career as a lawyer, businessman, or doctor is probably more up your alley.
It's funny. The reputation of airline pilots is $300,000 a year. Layovers in five star hotels. A different flight attendant or pilot, depending on your preference, every night, etc.
The reality is the Fairbanks layover is a run down Quality Inn. The Anchorage hotel is a run down hotel that I can't even think the name of. Even the Honolulu hotel is a run down noisy Sheraton. The crews are for the most part nice, but happily married (sometimes), and the pay is a comfortable (but not extravagant) $85,000/year.
Best of luck in your decision making and if you have any more questions, there seems to be plenty of opinions on this board!

Thanks guys! I enjoy hearing these things, and i have a lot to think about. Right now i am working in FL, and when i get home i will def. go to the local airport and see how i like controlling an airplane. A lil story from when i was younger, i use to play Flight Simulator a lot, and i loved it! Thats why i want to give this a try. I do have some things to think about tho. Anymore advice from anyone! I will be glad to read anything! I would like to know, some goods also lol.
But in all honestly, the Aeronautical Sciences degree from Riddle is really not worth it? How is an air traffic controller job? Can anyone give me any insight on this? Thanks
