Question Big Problem!!!!

I have a huge problem and maybe one of you high speed CFI types out there could help me out. I have my private cert.. and about two years ago I left my log book head sets everything you could imagine with a friend of mine and they were distroyed by flood water! What if anything can I do about the hours logged if I can't get a hold of my old instructor for copy of my flight time and all the hours that I logged PIC? I need to get some more instruction because it has been so long sence I have been airborne but I don't know what to do. All I have is my Certificate saying I am a private pilot!!! Please any suggestions....

Contact the flight school where you did most of your flying. The last 3 schools I was involved in were electronic and they had every flight of mine in record and from that you could reconstruct your logbook. Find your old CFI and see if he can re-sign your endorsements, unless he is dead he is kicking around somewhere and you could mail him your new logbook and he can do his end. Worst case scenario if you know how many hours you had you can start this new logbook as if the other were full and the first line of the book will just be brought forward IE single engine 76.2 night 8.4 PIC 20.3 etc and still find your CFI to recreate the endorsements.

If you do not plan on flying proffessionaly it is a very small deal since you can prove you are a pilot you just will need to prove you are current which are are talking about doing with a CFI in the near future anyway. It is a slightly larger deal if you plan on making this a career but not the end of the world since you probably only lost 100 hours that you cant prove. You could start over a new logbook and explain it later.

Thanks for the help were are you stationed? I am currently in the Army in Maryland. You are right it was only about 100 hours so hope it is not a huge deal to get current but I will make it happen...

You should have all your previous time broken down when you submitted your 87-10 app. for you private. At that point that is a legal document so you can use that as a record of your time. Good Luck!

Agreed,
Your logbooks were verified by the FAA when you took you Private Pilot Checkride, a copy of you 8710 will suffice in a new logbook showing the forwarded time.
I'd check with you local FSDO first though.

Years ago I started making regular pdf scans of my logbook for this very reason. You really have it covered then. Just scan the new pages every so often and paste it in there.

If you've gotten a new medical since then, a lot of your times can be derived from that application.

The suggestions above should help, but losing 100 hours isn't really a "Big Problem!!!!". You'll be fine.
