getting degree and ratings at the same time
 

I am thinking of getting degree online. which will save lot of time and hopefully money as far as getting college degree in any subject. That way i can get my degree and ppl or some more other ratings at the same time.
I am just wondering if there is any good reputed online college avialable. There are lot of fake online university now a days don't know which one to trust.:confused: If anyone has better idea what should i do, it would be appriciated.

New York University or New York Institute of Technology. Many other big name unversities also now have online study programs as well. Just depends on what you want to major in.

I wouldn't worry about fake universities. BUT, online is not cheaper, and it actually takes more effort. I attend U. of Phoenix, but I go to the campus. they have 3 campus' in Atlanta, and it's only 1 day a week for a 4 hour class. For online, you need to log in and do activities 6-7 days a week, and it costs more. I'm also getting my ratings at ATP at the same time. good luck, just make sure you have that college degree for a backup plan. Airline industry is very unstable

If you are under 25, you should go to a college campus. College will be the best time of your life. I am 23, one year out of college, and I am going through a "quarter life crisis." No, not really, but it kinda sucks being out of college.

I went to college and got a degree in Aerospace Engineering. During my freshman year, I decided to get my private during the school semester, and it was REALLY TOUGH! From then on, I got my instrument, commercial, and multi during the summer when I was working, not going to school.

My recommendation is to get your degree from a college campus if you are under 25. Otherwise, you can go get it online. If you choose a hard degree (engineering, law, medicine, etc...), I would recommend doing your licenses and ratings over the 4 month summer. If you take a fairly simple degree, you can try your ratings during the school year.

Ryane - how did you pay for your advanced ratings - more loans?

I pretty much did the same thing ryane946 did. I went to Baylor University and got a degree in Aviation Sciences but I had to get all my ratings through CFi in order to graduate. Which sucks because I was doing just as much schoolwork as everyone else but then you had to do everyhting envolved with flying. It was no easy task but it was easily worth it.

Paid for half my college with scholarships and working as an RA (free room and board) during my sophomore and junior years. Parent's paid other half.

For my licenses and ratings, I paid for them with my own money I had saved from my first job, money I had invested in the stock market, and summer jobs and internships while in college. I NEVER went into debt getting my licenses and ratings (although I came close). Once I became a CFI, I started saving a little again, and hopefully that will get me through the first year at a regional as a FO without going into debt.

Recommendations.
Save as much as you can. How many kids saved almost every penny from their first job. I did.
Invest, invest, invest. The US economy is growing, and for the long term, the stock market WILL go up. I have more than doubled the money I invested in the stock market!!

i'm 25 ryne, and don't know what should i do i keep changing my mind like every week. i'll be 26 next year .. does that mean i should go for online study or college. and four years from now i'll be 29 -30 .. i wanna have all my ratings and as many hour as i could. that's why i don't wanna wait for my colleg to be done with. i was thinking of investing on stock market too but i have no idea how it works. if i could get some heads up and some dos and don'ts it would be nice.

Ok, I would probably rule out going to college, and then getting your licenses and ratings. It could be done, but you won't be on with a regional until you are about 32, and then you'll have to spend some years there before you make money capable of living off.

So I would say your two options are:
1. Go to college, and don't get a real hard degree. Then you can do some flying during the school year, and fly as much as you can during the summer while working.
2. The online college.

I would probably choose option #1. But that is just my opinion. It is completely up to you.
