I let it lapse

I know about 3 lines down is a CFI thread, but alas, mine lapsed years ago. I know a checkride is the only way to get it back. Anybody taken a CFI requal checkride recently? I had the double I and MEI and understand with one ride, I can get them all back. Also, unlike a new CFI candidate, I can hire any qualified DE instead of a Fed.
I figured I'd take one of those recurrent web courses, go check out in a Citabria, and find a good CFI to make sure I'm up to speed. Surely one of you posters has been through all this, care to share your experience.

It is generally considered to be easier to retake the CFII...that is the most cut-and-dry instructor ride. That will re-instate all of your other instructor certs.

Rick, I thought one checkride - in any airplane got you back all your CFIs. Is that not correct? Take it in a 152 and get your MEI (providing you had one).

exactly, but what rickair is saying is that the double II is the easiest...and it reinstates your instructor certificate....and all its addons

Unlike S turns across a road or soft field takeoffs, instrument flying is something I do every day, so, thanks for the tips!

Any particular reason to use a Citabria? Nothing wrong with that, but if you already have time in a 150 or something it'd seem to be easier. Now if you're qualifying or getting current in a taildragger, then combining that with your reinstatement is an excellent idea.

Until a couple of years ago I would just take the ride instead of the refresher course - it's all done in an afternoon that way. It has never been a big deal.

For me, there isn't a maneuver in a Cessna that isn't easier in a Citabria, I spent so much time giving dual in one.

That explains THAT! I don't see many Citabrias that are configured for instrument work, though. You might try to find out what the examiner usually expects before you pick the CFII route. Whatever - like I say it usually isn't that big a deal. Good luck. :)

You're right about not many IFR Citabrias. Wasn't considering the CFII as the type checkride, just basic CFI.

Just curious if the OP does a CFI ride again does it still include a 4-6 hour oral on FOI, regs, aerodynamics, etc? Or is just the practical portion of the checkride?
