Default Any Helicopter Pilots out there?

I'm tossing around the idea of getting my heli private. I'm currently a fixed-wing CFII/MEI. Any thoughts on the transition between fixed-wing and rotorcraft? Is it difficult to go between the two?

If you have the money, flying helos is a lot of fun. I personally do not find it difficult to hop back and forth between airplanes and helos; I typically will fly a Eurocpter A-Star helicopter, a Cessna 210 and a King Air all in the same week. Not a big deal. (Buit I have been doing it for quite awhile too.)

I'd been flying F/W for about 28 years before I got my Comm helo add-on; did that back in 1998. The cost for my comm add-on back then (in a Robinson R-22) was about $10,000.

I am just gonna guess, but probably not good. You might check out the following websites for more helicopter info, jobs, etc.

Verticalreference Home
Just Helicopters > JH Landing Page

Yea, it's closer to about $13,000 for a comm add-on now.
Took the first flight a few days ago- completely hooked. Found it more fun than fixed-wing. Now just have to find the money to fund my new obsession.

I am noticing some some negative habit transfer with FW folks to helos. Most notably, leading a turn with the same direction of pedal and ending up WAY out of trim.

You are right though, flying rotary is much more fun. Too bad it's so damned expensive.

How many hours are involved with that Comm add-on??? I doubt I'd be doing this any time in the near future, but always had an interest in flying some egg-beaters

As far as I know, it's 30hrs for a private add-on and 50hrs (total) for a commercial add-on.
