I don't see any practical use for it while you're in the air...its more of a planning tool. I guess you could use it to double check dispatch to make sure that they gave you a legal T/O alternate...other than that I can't come up with anytime's you'd use it...It calculates it based on yoru groundspeed...but since it's doing so in still air it just takes your indicated airspeed, and corrects it for all errors, tepmerature and pressure, crompressibility...etc...so the short of it is...if it comes up with a number like 200kts...then its going to say that you need a T/o Alternate within 200 NM of your departure airport. Then once an airport is selected it will do its fuel calculations and tell you how much fuel will be burned on the way to the alternate. Thats about all i remember about it

1. What an ATC advisory such as "traffic 10 o'clock, 2 miles...." is based on the position of that of that traffic relative to the plane's magnetic heading or actual ground track?

2. What kind of speed is based on the minimum climb gradient for SID?

3. The published MSA for each sector provides magnetic or true heading?

4. According to no.3, in what situation the true or magnetic are used? in my understanding, true is used in the map things, am I right?

5. Why the predicted wind direction in the METAR or ATC reporting is in TRUE direction? wouldn't it easier for pilots if it is given in MAGNETIC?

6. What is ESAD? and what is its usage?

I hope these ain't too many questions for you. Many great experienced pilots here. I hope you could please kindly advise me. I would appreciate.
