Sic - Pic

I am wanting to start looking for a new job. However, Most international carriers require an ATPL. Does anyone know what it takes to convert a SIC type to a PIC type/ATPL. Thanks for the info.

Well, it takes getting the written done and taking the type ride. An ATP ride and type ride are the same thing. That being said, depending on what equipment you're on, it may be tough to find affordable training. I looked into getting a full on 145 type cause I already have the SIC and flight safety wanted $24,000 for 2 more stalls and a circling approach. Kinda BS, but worth looking into if youve got a different type.

24k for a lousy 145 type. thats highway robbery. I got my ATP written knocked out before I was hired by uncle HK. However, that was years ago. I know that the one year restriction does not apply while working for a 121 carrier. Does that apply if you get your ATP outside of your carrier?

Are you talking about converting your FAA ratings to JAA? If so it takes about a year, about 15k and actual flights that you might have to do overseas for the instrument rating depending on your experience. I looked into it but gave up on it, too much for me plus you need to have dual citizenship or right to work for many JAA airlines. Also many FO positions are fine if you only have a CPL but you need the ATPL written.... from the JAA or local gov authority not the FAA one.

Your ATP written expires two years after you take it, but you can still use it beyond two years if you upgrade at a 121 airline.

Out in town you need a current written, period.

If all you need is an ATP, you can knock that out for $1,500. If they want you to be PIC typed in a turbine, don't pay for it yourself. not worth the $$$...

Anybody know what happens if you complete the ATP written prior to going to a 121 carrier and you get furloughed? Does the two year clock still apply or not?

As far as I know yes it does.
