Default FBO Question

Hello all, what are the chances of being hired as a full time flight instructor at an FBO after going through their course? What are typical yearly salaries like?? More info would help on this. Thanks.

Well, @ my flight school typically if you do your CFI through our chief Pilot most likely you'll be able to start working as a CFI after you pass your checkride. Very rarely they hire from the outside. Pay starts @ $19hr then $20hr when you get your CFII and an additional dollar after you have 200hrs of instruction given. So you top out @ $21hr.

I was making $18/hr in 1995. It really depends who you work for but I was hired by the school I did my training through.

At my local FBO, I earn $15/hr for primary instruction and $20/hr for advanced; pretty crappy if you ask me.

I start instructing at the FBO that I am training at when I pass my initial. I will start at $18 an hour, and the average around here (western Washington) is less than $10k a year.

If you do your training at an FBO, they will usualy hire you when they have the need for another instructor. If they aren't busy, they will often make you wait until another instructor goes to the airlines, and you get their spot.

You are paying $30 per hour, but the instructor is only seeing $15-18 of that. The rest goes to their employer. My FBO charges $37 per hour for an instructor and only $18 goes to the instructor.

Naaa he gets all of the $$$. I pay him directly, don't use an FBO for scheduling or anything like that, just fuel.

When I first started flying, my CFI charged me $20 an hour. He was freelance.
