Do your Insturment in a Multi?
Check this out. This CFI recommends getting your Insturment in a Twin. Comments?

Only thing I can think of it finding someone else that is doing the same thing to be your safety pilot....

That's how I did my training. Quick MEL PPL add-on then IFR in the multi to start logging PIC.

Expensive, but you have to get multi-time somehow. I am thinking that I will get my CFII in the twin, along with my MEI. Some DEs will let you do both checkrides at the same time. I believe All ATPS does their CFII MEI add on ratings this way. This is another option for me. I guess I have to get through my initial first, week from today.

Twin time (w/ safet pilot): $80 /h
Twin Time (solo) $160/h
Inst Training in a 172 w/ CFII: $100.
Inst Training in twin w/ CFII: $190.
If you do 30 hours with a CFII...
30 hours of twin time & inst training costs $5700.
30 hours SE inst training + 30 hours solo twin: $7,800
30 hours SE inst training + 30 hours twin w/ safety pilot: $5,400
Safety pilot time appears slightly cheaper, but it is not highly regarded at some airlines, some will only give 50% credit.
I'd do as much of your ratings as possible in the twin...it will make life simpler down the road.
