Default ATP, Panama City, FL

Greeting's all,

I am coming out of a 10 year Military career, and will be using my VA benefits to attend ATP. however the only school they have that uses this option is the one located in Panama City FL, I have read a VAST amount of post's and comments on the school, and it seems to me that you get out of it what you put into it. I know everyone's experience with the school is unique. I've weighed the good against the bad, and I seem to think that if you are motivated, and disciplined and ready to learn you wont run into a serious problem. I take into the account that there are "bad apples" as far as instructor out there, however "That Guy" is in every line of work, trust me I know. There seems to be a pattern of those throughout the postings that I have run across concerning ATP of two different type's of people, 1.) Those that go to school sit around and expect ratings to just fall in there lap, and then complain about the school when they don't. 2.) Those that go to the school apply themselves and have a wonderful and fulfilling experience.

I was initially about to waste my time and hard earned money with an outfit called Air Safety Flight Academy out of Glendale AZ, however after further investigation into there operations. and seeing them one too any times on Ripoff Report: By Consumers, For Consumers I decided against it, too bad I cannot get my deposit back.

So, all rambling aside, my question is has anyone been to the Panama City FL, ATP training center, and what was there experience with it. Also any other pilot's out there with experience with this Company or any other outfit that is good with the use of VA benefits I do have a mediocre amount of flight time. I just sold my BE-23-24 to help pay for the school, and have about 100hrs in a CE320. I know changing professions like this will require a pay cut. however I am prepared for that. Not that I dont like the Army, I just enjoy flying alot more. and dont mind making less to do what I love

Regards
Tim

Tim-

If your in the Phoenix area and have the advantage of the VA benifits UND has a partnership with Chandler Gilbert Community College at the Williams Mesa Gateway Campus. This might be another option for you. ATP is also located at Williams Mesa Gateway although it looks like you have done your research and they cant accept the VA Benifits there. Good luck in your decision ATP is a seems like a good place to get your training done especially if you are trying to get everything done as quickly as possible, Just keep motivated and you should do just fine there.

Default Thank you

I was aware of the UND partnership, however I currently attend ERAU online. and am working on my BA in Professional Aeronautics. I owuld rather do my training in AZ, but the place I was looking at as mentioned before doesnt look like there going to be around much longer. just glad I caught on to that before I gave them more Money

I haven't done at training at Panama City's ATP training center but visited them on a cross country with a student. They had 4 instructors sitting in the pilot's lounge and about 10 ATP aircraft parked on the ramp.

i just did my x/c's and went through panama city twice. its a nice location with a good amount of room. apartments are nice enough (you will spend most of your time in the training center). nice people there and the instructors there seem nice and knowledgeable. this location is becoming one of their busier location due to the 141 training as nearly everyone there is prior military. atps's program for 141 only does instrument and commercial if i recall correctly (you need to do private, private multi and cfi outside of the VA benefits). overall, a good program (very fast-paced) but you will get a lot of multi-time and the cross countries definitely make everything worth it.

Hey Tim,

Yes I am glad you got away from Air Safety and I know they are going through some tough times right now but hopefully in the future they will get things turned around. I know the UND program through CGCC has been approved for the VA Benifits and all of the flying done with UND does transfer to ERAU for their program and Degree as there has been several students that have done that. From what I understand, ERAU is really good to work with in this aspect. I would give UND a call and see what they can tell you. They would have better insight on how everything works.

Hope this helps and good luck
