I was wondering if anyone knows of an online degree programs (associates... perhaps a bachelor's if it is pretty easy) out there that requires a private pilot license? Public, private... doesn't matter so long as its an actual degree program (not a certificate) and the school is accredited (if you find me the program, I can find out whether its accredited or not).

I just completed an actual flight school program through a local community college, finished the FAA requirements and hope to take my checkride within a couple weeks.

The program cost about $6000 for ~55 hours of flying (a good deal to be sure), but if I could find a degree program that specifically requires a pilots license, I could get most of that reimbursed through my company's employee scholar programs.

I'm pretty sure such programs exist but I haven't been able to find 'em (and the community college I'm doing the pilot training through only has 'certificates').

Someone suggested Embry-Riddle and I am looking into that option.

For what its worth, I already have a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley and am looking at this primarily to save me money and keep flying on my mind, not as a career. I'll actually be going back to school next fall for an MBA, which is why an extremely intense program probably won't work.

So yeah... if you've heard of such a program, let me know!

I would be surprised if anyone offered that based on a PPL...kind of like getting a degree in mountain biking or surfing. I would think anything of that sort would require a CPL, since AA degrees tend to be vocation-oriented.

Daniel Webster offers an associates program where you get a PPL and do one other flight course on aerodynamics/meteorology in spin cessna's (used to be cap 10b), gliders, and regular 172s. However, it is quite expensive though I am sure all the leading flight schools compare in this department as far as offering an associates with a PPL.

Might I ask though, for what purpose?

check out uvu.edu. they have both at AS and a BS in "professional pilot". I already have my BS but signed up for the associates program in order to receive funding for my flight training. all classes can be taken online allowing you to train where you please. takes a little work, but i have gotten the program to work for me.
